OK. So I did my first safari in April/May. I hunted with Chamanzi Safaris in the Kwa-Zulu Natal. It was FANTASTIC. I got 2 Warthogs, 2 Wildebeest, Impala, Duiker, Fallow deer, Bushbuck, Nyala and Kudu. I'd go back in a New York minute. But I would like to try another area. The Limpopo area really interests me. My only concern is a ranch that's large you know 30,000 acers plus. Any ideas?
Thanks

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

HogSlayer1A ranch that size may be hard to find due to the fact that the South African ranches are much smaller than the ones in ,say, Namibia. In Namibia it is not uncommon to find a 50,000 ranch in Namibia. You may have to settle for a smaller ranch, however some say that the ranches in Limpopo has bigger ranches than the ret of South Africa. For the most part, S.A. is known for its tiny ranches.

PBensI hunted with Askari Safaris in Mar/Apr '09 in the Northern Limpopo province area (Alldays area). We hunted four differenct concessions over a 12 day period. The smallest area was where the base camp was located, approx. 18,000 acres. We also hunted areas ajacent to the base camp that were 25,000 and 32,000 acres. The last area was about a 25 minute drive from the base camp, but is was about 140,000 acres.
Myself and another hunter shot impala, gemsbok, baboon, kudu, wildebeest and warthog. All of the animals we shot scored SCI gold, bronze and silver.

Andrew McLaren1/2 slam,
I know that it is the one easy thing to decide on hunting on a 'big' ranch if you want to experience a true ethical hunt. But please note that a big area on which to hunt is small guarantee that the owners do not resort to 'put and take' hunting, or will expect you to shoot from a hunting vehicle. Although size is important, there is much more than just size to consider!
If you want true ethical hunting of some totally free range animals under very difficult hunting conditions, contact me. There are also a number of others that can and will offer you true ethical free range (or fenced in a large area) hunting.
In good hunting.

Brice www.thabammoyo.co.zaFanie and Zeriah Steyn have a beautiful place, Verulam, on the Sand River. About double the land area you mentioned. Both Fanie and Zeriah, his wife, are PH's. I've hunted 8 times in three countries with Fanie. Nobody better. He is a specialist on small cats.

Blacktailer+2 for Mafigeni.
But just out of curiosity (and don't ask the girls this question) but why does size matter? If you are hunting on 3000 hectares, you could hunt for a week and never see a fence. I hunted my whole life on our ranch that was 1650acres plus an ajoining ranch that we leased that was another 800 acres. I could take people out there and get them lost easy and I certainly never felt that I was limited by how much area we had to hunt. Anything on more than 1000 acres or so can be a truly challenging and free chase hunt. On the other hand as stated above, a large piece of property doesn't guarantee you that they aren't feeding the kudu oranges around the corner or want you to shoot over waterholes. JMHO

Adrian ParhamYou might try Huntley Ferreira safaris about 50k west of Alldays and quite near the Botswana border(limpopo river). They really go out of their way to make one feel at home. I have hunted with Huntley 5 times including 2 Zambian buff hunts.
Askari safaris and Paul Ferreira(no relation) should be a good choice. We shared a camp in Zambia with him and a delightful family from spain, I would hunt with him any time.
Planning a safari is great fun, enjoy!
