Rich ElliottAS Promised... 38 2/8's" Mt. Nyala
This was in our Damaro Concession April 27th.
It was about 6:15 PM when we took the picture and the fog was rolling in fast. If I get a better picture later on I'll post it. Oh, it was a 284 yard shot. The client was using a .323 Jarrett w/ 200 gr Nosler Partitons. He also had one of those new Zeiss Binoc's with a built in ranging device. Pretty handy at times like this. This was a really old Mt. Nyala. Almost no hair left and really skinny. Lousy teeth too. His hip bones were showing through his hide. You'll note quite a bit of brooming too.
I'd like to know his horn length in his prime.

bwanamrmNot only is he long, he is extremely massive also! One couldn't pick a better trophy for horn quality or age.

they are horns, not antlers.

Steve RichardsAllan, actually probably longer. As an antelope gets old, he begins to wear this horns down faster than they grow. A really old set of horns will always be shorter than they once were, though they become quite thick.

Rich ElliottYes, they were quite broomed with very little "ivory" tip left.

DPhillipsRich,
Thank you so much for the outstanding photos of the Mt. Nyalas you share with us. Indeed, one of the most impressive of all game animals - worldwide!
That would be a dream come true! Beautiful bull! How many days do you normally recommend to spend in the mountains to have a good chance of taking a representative bull?
Thanks for sharing, Rich!
Thanks Rich. splendid bull! Keep the drooling pictures coming!
