Life size Buffalo Targets
Life size Buffalo Targets
Has anyone ever seen Life sized Buffalo targets ?
I have not found any on the web yet. I am thinking of making my own, but would really need some high-resolution images.
Any thoughts?

500nitroWe use some here that are about 2/3 to 1/2 life size frontal for fun shoots and training. In full colour they cost about R15-R18 ($2.50 to $3.00) a piece (retail).
The printer has Lion, Leopard, Impala, Wildebeest, Nyala and Gemsbok as well as buff. And the smaller animals are life size and the bigger are scaled down somewhat.

The targets are used by most of the major hunting associations here - SA Hunters, Chasa and KZN Hunters to name a few.

Skinner.Surely there's a computer program that you could take a picture blown up to life size and have it sectioned on a grid to print on 8 1/2 x 11 sheets and then tape em' together.
I'd like to do that with bobcat and coyote pics then paste em' to heavy cardboard to set multiple targets at varying ranges for practice.
Thanks for the info. It is appreciated.
I found quality pics at $2-5 each. The problem is the posters cost too much to make. i have called friends to see if they will make me some for free. If not, I will see if I can get some from RSA as 500nitro reccomends.
Thanks again,
George

Ryan CampbellI saw a special on TV one time that profiled Hank Williams Jr., he had a lifesized steel target that was a silouete of a bison set out at about 300 yds.
You'd probably need someone that was fairly skilled with a cutting torch to make you one though.
The Hunt goes on forever, the season never ends.
I didn't learn this by reading about it or seeing it on TV. I learned it by doing it.

fredj338I down load good pics & print them on a large format printer (36x48). Not life size but good practice out to 100yds.

gotogirl3I don't think they have buff, but those McKenzie archery targets are really cool and they have lots of African animals. They seem a little expensive, but I've shot hell out of them with a .270, .300WM, and a friend with a .375 and all I did was patch up the holes and keep shooting. I like it because it is that 3D image instead of flat.
Of course I pulled up to get gas (full service) one day during the summer and the guy asked me if I had killed a deer. I said no, that it was (a) not deer season and (b) an impala.
If anyone does get the life-size pictures or outlines, I'd really love to have some.

Does such an application exist?

Frank MartinezI took a couple of photos to kinkos and had them enlarged to life size. I just told them the space between the horns had to be 48 inches. I then had prints made poster size then scaled to 8x10 sections that you tape together as stated above. That way you can make copies yourself on a flat bed scanner.
My son took one of the photos and put it in an overhead projector and drew it out for me on a 4x8 foot piece of foam core. It lasted quite a while. I am going to do it again with some photos of a bear.

Yup.
Yip - I have.
I’m working in conjunction with a local company on producing an extended range of African game targets for our African Hunters Guild. This company holds the copyright on an existing range and produces them for local hunters and hunting organizations.
Our intent is to do a similar range but making use of our pictures and to include shot placement guides.
Here is a sample of what’s available from the existing range, I’ve stuck these up in my office to give an idea of size. The pic on left shows the animal options at reduced scale, the buff target is representative of the full scale similar to what we intend using;
http://www.africanhuntersguild.com/targets/target3.jpgA close up of the buff target which shows some of the scoring rings;
http://www.africanhuntersguild.com/targets/target2.jpgAn option under consideration is finishing the design i.e. artwork and layout here in the RSA and then tying up a print and distribution agreement with someone in the US – let me know if interested.

470CapstickA2If you can take or get a big enough pixel picture... most printers will let you "tile" or preview and set up the printing so you can manually paste them together and get a "full size" picture.... you'll probably need a 3200x2400 pixel, and a 8 megapixel camera to get a pretty decent poster...
