SaeedMeeting Ahmed Of Marsabit
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Anthony Marsh relates the following story of his meeting with Ahmed of Marsabit, the legendary elephant of Kenya.
He was with a friend of his taking a movie of the elephant. Marsh informed his friend to stay filming if the elephant charges, and only run when he tells him.
"Ahmed swung around and made a short rush in our direction. 'Keep filming', I called, as I was ceratin the old boy was not serious. We hung on a little longer, then Ahmed got the hell in and came at us with his ears outsretched, making a really fantastic film.
'RUN', I shouted, and at the same made myself as conspicuous as possible by running sideways to keep the elephants attention while the others took off at speed.
Marsh - the big hero - then proceeded to fall over backwards into a mass of what felt like thorns concealed in the long grass. Ahmed came on a little further on at a run, slowed, then walked forward. I was flat on my back with my head towards the elephant, and from my perspective the elephant looked about 20 feet tall.
'Please Ahmed, don't come any nearer', I prayed under my breath, 'because if you do I shall have to shoot you and that will be the end of both our careers."
