Guys,
You'll find lots of travel tips on our site at
www.shakariconnection.com but just in case you don't get to visit the site, one tip you might consider in an attempt to stop the dickheads who work for that airline losing your riflecases is:
Cut two pieces of white plastic around 6 inches x 4 inches (I use pieces from an ordinary ice cream container), stick them onto your riflecase with a good contact adhesive or other strong glue and then write your name and all flight details on them with permanant marker pen.
When you get home after your hunt, you can wipe the plastic clean with a bit of rag and a splash of gasoline.
The idea of two pieces is so that even if the plonkers manage to knock one off, there's still one left.

Or WD-40-- a tad less volatileThe idea of two pieces is so that even if the plonkers manage to knock one off, there's still one left.
Still a great idea

SaeedI am using even a better idea.
I use an aluminium case, and have made aluminium name tags with my name and address on them.
I have these rivetted on both my rifle and ammo cases.
11 March 2010, 18:25
shakariI find WD40 leaves a film behind that you have to wash off whereas gasoline or lighter fuel evaporates completely...... it will work though as will corrosion X..... but that's a bit pricey to waste on cleaning baggage labels.

11 March 2010, 18:27
ddrhookwd-40 would work well But shakari always liked to watch a new fire start. especialy if it's close to an airlines attendent

11 March 2010, 18:55
ddrhookthere good of evadeince removal too. and in your case shakari that might come in very handy

11 March 2010, 19:01
shakariMrs Shakari is the medical fundi but ciprofloxycicine is one of the best if you get really a bad stomach..... but if your taking doxycycline for any appreciable amount of time, it's a VERY good idea to take regular daily doses of live acidophilis to keep the yoghurt monster away!

11 March 2010, 19:07
ddrhookI don't need that much information about the yoghurt monster eeeeewwwww.

I was thinking cipro was what I needed but could not remember. old timmer's memory some times it work some times it don't

WannabeBwanaLighter fluid or naphtha gas works as well or better than gasoline, and doesn't have the same odour. Rubbing alchohol will also work for some permanent markers. With all of these, the smell also doesn't stay on your hands for days afterward, like gasoline.

I already know that shit mate...... you're talking to a bloke that blew a 4 yard crater in his school playground with a home made bomb contained in a classroom fire extinguisher when he was about 12 or 13!

11 March 2010, 20:07
butchlocone we use on our plain luggage is to talk bright yellow and red tape and wrap the handles of the duffles. that makes them stick out like a sore thumb when you're collecting you luggge
11 March 2010, 23:19
ddrhookI painted floresent orange and yellow stripes and circle on mine. after loseing one of them for three month!!!!!!!! it was amazine how fast the airlines found my bag when i sent them a bill with all the recieo=ptes from the item i listed in the bag. I have never lost those bags since

11 March 2010, 23:19
ddrhookI might have to paint my next Ph to keep track of him

MolepololeIf you're going to use a solvent to change the information on the tag, then do it way before your flight time (maybe even weeks) so the residue/vapor can evaporate completely. Gasoline will set off the "sniffer" that TSA uses at the airport and this may cause you a hassle in explaining it to the TSA agent when he inspects your rifle case.

Rick RFWIW I had a local printer who does bumper stickers make about a dozen with my name, email address, a picture of a knight chess piece and the phrase "Have Gun Will Travel" for less than $20.00.
I stuck two of them on my SKB gun case and so far they've made two trips to RSA and another couple in the US intact.

I also added orange reflective tape in the indents around the case so it is pretty distinctive coming off the luggage conveyor.
It works for me so far.

In South Africa that is a huge temptation for the scrap metal thieves. They would even sell the rivets.
