Hunter mauled by Lion in Zambia
Facts are still a bit sketchy but it appears that Jason Stone of Stone hunting safaris was mauled by a Lion this past week-end and has been evacuated to JHB, was in theater all day today. Am sure the full story and detailed facts will surface in the next few days

Ouch. Hope he's doing well. Last year seemed to be the year of the elephant. This year seems to be the year of the cat.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

I do not know this guy but can only imagine what his issues are from what I have experienced lately. If anyone is a friend of his and wants to learn what i have seen recently in dos and dont's of fundraising, they are welcome to contact me. I will not deter from my mission for John Greeff but will gladly guide and be the first to make a donation when they get organized.

I hope the best outcome for him and his family.

OK Chaps. I made a few phone calls and did a bit of research. It's Jason Stone of Stone Hunting Safaris who operates in CAR, Cameroon and Zambia etc.

Injuries are several bites to the right leg. He was medivaced to Jo'burg and has now had 2 operations with several more scheduled and is obviously still in hospital.

I am in touch with his wife and feel free to contact me if you need to get a message to them.

After reading the 2 reports of the PH's getting injured, could some of the old hands please give us a few recommendations as to which Emergency Air company etc they recommend using in such a case. Do you need to take out special cover with an Emergency Air company, or just have international travel insurrance, that will cover an evacuation.
Our thoughts are with Jason and John , and hope to see them back in the bush soon again.

I've never had to use any of them but the best medivac by a country mile is generally acknowledged to be Global Rescue Here: http://www.shakariconnection.com/global-rescue.html

Just to give you guys an update.

Jason is (obviously) going to have a slow recovery but they're OK for now and thank you for your concern & prayers etc.

Steve,

Glad to hear Jason is doing OK now. Thx for the update.

At some point I hope the details of the hit will be forthcoming, as we all learn from others experiences, both good and bad.

Note Jason is not a PH in Zambia but accompanies his clients here. By all accounts a decent chap and hope he patches up well.

Guys,

I didn't want to trouble his wife too much because I get the idea she's rushing round like a blue arsed fly trying to deal with all the issues that arise with these things..... So I just let her know she can contact me at any time if she needs help.... and I've left it at that.

I'm also due to go on safari myself in a couple of days time so I'm also trying to get all the normal loose ends tied up.

I figured I'd leave her in peace until I get back and will contact here again then.

She has all my contact details and can contact either me or the 'management' if she needs to.
