Winchester or CZ, 375 or ???

mark65x55Winchester or CZ, 375 or ???
I’m looking at, dreaming of and in the planning stages of a 2006 cow elephant and plains game hunt. At this point I don’t have a big bore rifle and plan to buy one this spring. I’ve been looking at a Winchester in .375 or 416rem and also the CZ in 375, which now I understand the CZ is coming out with the 404 and is something else to consider. This hunt and maybe another dream hunt, grizzly bear, is the only time I see me need a big bore rifle. So help me decide, which one would best fit my needs.

WillYou will get about 8400 different answers to this, but if it was me:
I'd just get a CZ .375. Less money and more in the magazine.
The CZ 404 is going to be almost twice as much money as the 375, and you have the cost of and the headache of finding components.

BwanahileGo with the CZ 375 H&H. You also may want to consider a CZ 416 Rigby.

T.CarrIf it was me hunting cow elephant, I would want something in .416 range or larger.

hacksawtomI picked up a CZ .375 and love it! I took it to RSA on a 15 day plains game hunt and had no problems. The PH was a little suprised when I told him it held 6 rounds in the magazine. I was going to glass bed it, but it shoots under and inch at 100 yds, so I'm going to let it be.
I'm going to Zimbabwe for a buffalo hunt. On advice from the PH and this forum, I'll be taking my CZ .416 and the .375 for a spare.

vapodogSince I have no experience with the ele or griz hunting I'll confine my comments to that which I do have experience.......Will gave good advice about the .404.....It's a superb cartridge but components and dies are not easy to come by as the .375 and .416 and it seems that standardization of that cartridge has been a trifle lacking around the world.....If you go that route please do so with the knowlege that it's gonna be a little harder to get the ammo and get it where ever you want it.....I treat mine almost like a wildcat.....The .375 and .416s are deservedly popular.

Which CZ .375 did you buy/use? The American style stock or the original one? Why?
