I'm sure Kathi Klimes could get the flights scheduled no problem, noting fairs are cheaper now then peak-season and at the old rates if booked before end of March. Expect $1250 Atlanta-Joburg then $200 to Harare (+tax). $400 to drive to/from Harare-Omay, or $1500 charter both ways.

Expect a "traditional" communal lands problem animal type of hunt, tracking elephant bulls raiding crops, and shooting a non-trophy (non-export) bull. Mid-May is the latest that the hunt would be possible.

This is probably a very silly question, but how come there is a trophy fee for a PAC (non-exportable) hunt?

There is also a triphy fee for tuskless elephants which can't be imported to the US. The reason there is a trophy fee is that there is a demand for the experience on a budget. The trophy fees and daily rate for non export elephants is significantly lower than that for the exportable "trophy" bulls.

Non export elephants fall outside the CITIES quota.

Ivory would be nice, so would some of the hide, but the experience can't be beat. The real trophies are your memories anyway. Get the experience at a discount, but not free since the demand is there.

Also, no visitor to Zimbabwe may hunt anything without paying for it. Donations require special permission. Parks set the legal minimums that the Council may charge and the operator who has the concession will want to make enough to cover the paperwork, hassel etc.

Also, as I understand it - and this is just my understanding as a visiting hunter not in the business - these hunts are not officially called "PAC" hunts anymore, and this term should not be used as PAC can only be shot by Parks or Zim citizens w/permission of Council and Parks (such as an appy-PH getting experience). With these legit "Non-Trophy" hunts, there is a set minimum (as set and overseen by National Parks) which is a significant portion of the "trophy fee" that must be paid to the Tribal Council by the operator (HHK for example), and of course the meat goes to the Council (villages) too. This is all good, and they will be problem animals. I guess instead of "trophy fee" it should be called a "kill fee" or something, good point, but generic terms die slowly.

It is nice to run my hand over the tusks of my elephant from time to time and admire the unique feel of ivory. But in the end the real trophies are the memories.
