Day hunts near Lusaka
I'm in Lusaka on business and today visited the Chaminuka Nature Reserve, about a 45 minute drive from Lusaka. It's a 10,000 acre private reserve, which I thought only provided a very summary game drive and lunch. Game is not super plentiful, nor is the setting very wild, probably because of it's proximity to Lusaka.

However, I did learn that one can do a day hunt, or just a couple of days, if done outside of the weekends which are reserved for family game viewing and lunch.

As some of you may remember, I have previously done short stay hunts in South Africa with Jaco Human and with Andrew MacLaren, and enjoyed them very much.

So this is just a "heads-up" to those, who like me, travel frequently to Africa on business. The per night rate is $280, add $100 for the vehicle and a loaner rifle. If you just do a hunt (no overnight) the rate is $100 + 100 for vehicle and rifle per day. This is very reasonable.

Trophy fees on some antelope are also very reasonable:

Impala $150
Bushbuck $750
Lechwe $1,500

You can also do buffalo or sable, but a minimum of 3 nights is required and the trophy fees are not at all the same:

Buffalo $12,500
Sable $9,000

Personally, I wouldn't want to hunt buffalo or sable on a smaller fenced property which lacks the wild africa context, but it is available. But to tag on a couple of days to a business trip and do some lesser antelope it seems to me to be a very good option.

Hi Wink,

Thanks for the heads up.
So you are saying that for example tou can hunt a bushbuck for 100+100+750 = 950 USD (if your lucky enough to fin one inm a day)?

You drive/walk around alone? If you get an animal, what about preperations bringing it home? Skinning and Dip and pak etc?

Not going to Lusaka now, but interesting stuff Smiler
