My friend recently with his family shot 14 plains game animals on one safari with the 180 Scirocco from his 300 WM. Everything died quickly. Having said that I would not hunt general plains game with the Scirocco. I have heard too many complaints about it over expanding at close range and therefore giving inadequate penetration. My choices would be Nosler Parition, Swift A-Frame, Trophy Bonded Bear Claw or Barnes TSX. All of these will give reliable preformance and one of them has got to shoot well in your rifle.

blaser93I shoot 300WBY ,Last year I used this bullet on plains game.I had 5 one shot kills on Kudu,Gems buck, Limpopo bush buck and Impala. I hand load mine . I shoot the 180 gr, it's all in where you put the bullet too.

GeorgeSI would use it, except for raking shots on eland, wildebeast, sable, roan, and giraffe.

JBoutfishnGeorge, you are going to control the angle how?

Last spring I had 5 one shot kills, as if hit by lightning, using Swift Aframes in my 300 Win Mag. Never a worry

GeorgeSJim,
In other words, if I were hunting with
Sciroccos (unlikely since I've always hunted with Swift A-Frames

), I would not take raking shots on eland, wildebeast, sable, roan, and giraffe, if that was my only shot presentation. I'd wait for a behind-the-shoulder shot, instead.

AtkinsonConsidering the cost of Safari today I would opt for a Nosler partition...We all know they work...oh I am sure there are a few decenters but I wouldn't put much into what they think about Noslers...

yesHi
Thanks for the answers. I was thinking to use 165 gr scciroco for lesser antilopes and 180-220 gr nosler PT or swift PT for the bigger ones. i was concerned about the longer shooting distance and smaler antilopes , maybe the 165 gr at 2800-2900 could give me a better trajectory? i supose the scciroco is a boded bullet?

Your plan is logical but sure as the sun rises you'll be loaded up with the 165 Sciroccos when the chance comes for the eland and you'll have to take a raking shot or none. Don't mess around with 2 loads. It sounds like you might be using an '06 and a 180 NP will do it all in that caliber.

Mark

vapodogMy sample size of 1 (one) sciroccos produced very poor accuracy. The A-Frames shoot extremely well for me and I've used them on Kudu and Gemsbok.
I wouldn't hesitate to use them again. The A-Frame gets two thumbs up from me.

The scirocco.....well...
