vektor? and Musgrave?
What's the deal on these rifles? Does the company still make guns?

I once saw a Musgrave 30-06 for sale in Wyoming. I wish I would have bought it as I thought it was a neat gun.

It had a action like a Browning A-Bolt or a BSA.

What do you guys know?

They have fallen off the radar screens and I suspect that South Africa's recent gun laws were the death knell.

I am not totally up to date, but the Musgrave factory in Bloemfontein closed down in +/- 1996 (I am not sure of the date). Vector was still producing firearms in 2003 (this might be wrong, but Vector arms was still in the gunshops). I know the Musgrave family still operates a private owned gunsmith business in Bloemfontein. There is a place called Lyttleton Firearms that produces barrels for rifles, I am not sure if they are in any way connected to Vector, but if I remember correctly they bought all the equipment from the Musgrave factory.

Some of Musgraves more recent models was the model 90 and mod 2000 as well as the K98.

A lot of South African hunters still use Musgrave rifles and swear by it.

Like I said some of my facts/dates might be wrong, since I am not totally up to date with it.

I am borrowing a Musgrave 308 for my safari. I will post how the hunt went when I get back August 16th.

D99 I cannot remember all the facts, but I recall Ben Musgrave (he passed away in 2003) started off by building his own custom rifles he used in in "bisley" competitions. He was one of the first guys to use a 7,62 NATO round for his rifle. There is a rumour the he was once banned/told not to take part in the annual Bisley competition in England, because "his rifle was to accurate" or they said it must be a .303 British. Like I said it might me a rumuor. Something like that was mentioned in his orbituaries. He later started the factory during the late '60s early '70s (again, my info might be wrong).

I know his son(s) still own the gunsmith-place in Bloemfontein.
