I can remember seeing photos as a young boy of John Sharp dressed like that.

Thank you for sharing I really enjoyed it.

Would be interesting to hear the story off the guy that got run over by the Cape Buff.

He's his own persona and that's his trademark in a very competitive business and he is good. Hunted with him twice and soon a third time. In fact, I'm in that video

I was privileged to spend some time with John on a booth at Houston SC this January and it really was a great pleasure. John is a gentleman and I can see why he has so many happy repeat clients...

Interesting video.

I don't know whether the cameraman was always in the direct line with the hunter, but it appeared that there a lot of shots taken at buffalo at less than ideal angles. No wonder so many took off like scalded cats.

In that slow motion shot of the kudu you could see the bullet in flight.

Some good shots on elephants and some bad ones.

Pretty good video of Sharp but the shoot, shoot, shoot stuff at the beginning and end was a bit much.

Aspen Hill Adventures

Lots of interesting footage. One thing I noted was how most of the hunters dropped their rifles down to chamber another round.

One of the elephant shots (a frontal) was quite awesome. One in particular wasn't so good. The group was quite close up and took a lot of time to aim and then missed the brain.

Many nice buffalo bulls, nice to see them.

The only thing I would have done different with the production was better music. I dislike hard rock music paired with hunting, I think it makes our sport look cheap and gives no respect to the game animals at all.

First time I saw this video was a month ago as I will hunt with John and his videographer in June 2009. John said the unfortunate soul in the buff charge episode was alive and well and back to hunting about two weeks after the shot was taken.

Awesome video. Many thanks for the link. As for the music, must be a generational thing, I loved the music. Nothing like some rock and roll and african hunting to get the heart pumping.

He seems to be a man who loves what he does and enjoys life. More power to him.

Thanks for the clip, it was very informative! I have a film of Sharp with some of that footage in it, but I can't remember which film it is, and I've got thousands of hours of African hunting footage!

There is no question John Sharp is a very good PH, and I'd hunt with him any time. His seemingly Juvenile persona is a little out of place for a man in his 50s,seems a little narcissistic to me, a trait I do not like in people, but that doesn't take away from his ability as a PH, safari opperator, pilot, or his back-up shooting ability, and choice of rifles! That, in the end, is what we pay for on safari. I've never heard anyone, who has hunted with John, say he was incompetant, or that they didn't get their money's worth! Quite the opposite, in fact!

I didn't particularly like the music in the film clip, but I was so interested in the animals, and the shot placements on them that I really didn't notice the music, till I read some comments posted here! The quote above, however, is what is lame....very, very lame, and a snobbish comment that was UNCALLED FOR, IMO!

Never the less, opinions very, and all are intitled to their own!

I just finished watching it for a second time...

Two things stand out:

1) John should wear his shirt/vest all the time

2) There are some good/great shots and then it seems to me that there are lots and lots of poorly placed shots.

It is so obvious that all the negative comments come from those that don't know nor have hunted with John Sharp. I am lucky enough to have been hunting with several times and he is in every way "the gentle giant". Never a more positive person and if something goes wrong you couldn't have a better PH by your side. As for his attire he's just an old hippie that happens to be best PH in the business. Here's feeling sorry for all you critics that don't even know the man.

What I got out of watching him is: That is my idea of Hunting Africa! He doesn't "Mark Sullivan" and start blasting. He just looks like he's having fun watching. Even after a poor placed shot on the elephant, in close proximity, he directs the hunter on the follow up shots! Incredible confidence!

I would love to hunt with John someday. The hippie comment is pretty much my perspective with no disrespect intended. It's just his personal style, which I much prefer to having a PH who is overweight. Some earlier photos of him demonstrate excellent physical conditioning by anyone's standards. I have no doubt he could walk us all into the ground and he has won a lot of professional awards. What's not to like? From what I can tell, he has a lot of respect from the other Zim PH's as well and those guys are a tough crowd.

When the window opens click the arrow in the center of the screen. Then in the lower right hand corner you'll see some icons. Click the "TV" (with rabbit ears). That will open a window with the list of available promo's.
