. . . and once you have sent letters to Trump and Zinke, use the platform to send an email to five friends urging them to send letters too.

I honestly did not think we would have to beg these two to do what was right to insure wild animals and wild places.

I will leave the political forum critique out and say thank you Mr. Shores.

Guys,

I wrote Trump and I guess someone will at least have to read it. It's better than doing nothing and for me it was therapeutic as I was pretty down about this decision this morning and I feel a little better now.

I am not American but was just as elated to read the first USF&WS announcement that Zam & Zim Elephant trophies were to be importable. Quite an achievement against the antis and a great step by President Trump. I will probably never hunt Elephant but appreciate the significant conservation value of legally permitted hunts to which American hunters make the largest contribution by far. Therefore, it's important.
I was just as down to then hear the decision is now " on hold ".
Surely President Trump can see this decision is right and carry it through. For what good it hopefully does I emailed my thoughts to Mr. Trumps office a few minutes ago.

Hunting.... it's not everything, it's the only thing.

Guys,

I hope more members than the 14 I count are going to participate in letting Trump know how you feel about him standing in the way of implementing importation of elephant and lion. In the long run this will effect everyone interested in African hunting and perhaps hunting in general.

Mark,

I'll participate but it wouldn't matter if the President received 14,000 letters. Its only 14,000 in a country of 350,000,000 who by and large find hunting Elephants and Lions repugnant.

Go to “Sportsmen For Trump” Facebook page. You can send a “Private Message” in support of sport hunted elephants allowed from Zambia and
Zimbabwe. I just stated “science over emotion” with respect to African Wildlife Management.

Just did.

I'll do this tonight as I'm running short on time at the moment.

I do have a question though that I need help with. Approximately how many elephants are shot by sport hunters in Zimbabwe each year? What about the other countries that allow elephant hunting? I'm engaged in several discussions on Facebook who support keeping the ban, but who've admitted they don't know the facts and are open minded to learn. It would help me if I have actual numbers. Some of them were under the impression that it was numbers like deer permits in some states.

CITES export quota for 2017 is for 500 elephant from Zimbabwe, not sure how many are actually used from the quota.

. . . out of an estimated elephant population in Zimbabwe of 83,000+. That is .6% if you do the math. And elephant populations have the capacity to double every 9 to 15 years. Between 1991 and 2000, for example, Botswana's elephant population increased at an average annual incremental rate of 8 percent. So the CITES allowed harvest numbers do not even come close to the average incremental elephant population growth rate.

By comparison, the estimated whitetail deer population in Texas was around 3.5 million in 2015 versus an annual harvest of around 500,000 . . . a rate of harvest well north of 10%.

I used the SCI app, and received an automated reply from the White House.

I also submitted comments directly to USF&W from their website. See link below.
