375 flanged or 9.3x62?
For kudu and smaller plains game my buddy is trying to choose between his Ruger #1 375 flanged mag and his CZ550 9.3x62. Buffalo are also on the menu..taking his 416 Rem for that. Any opinions?

I'd probably take the 9.3 because of the poss of running into buffalo while hunting other stuff...hmmm.

Good hunting,

Andy

Load 350 gr TSX in the 416. I shot 270 gr .375 TSX in a H&H and ,416 Rem mag I found the 350 gr .416 TSX shot flater and drifted less than .375 270 gr.

Either cartridge will work swimmingly. General recommendation is to pick whichever one he can hit with the most consistently.

On the other hand, when a 20 minute Impala stalk turned into a 4 hour Kudu stalk, I felt really naked with just a .308 (I was the only one that brought a gun, and seeing fresh ele spoor carrying nothing but a deer rifle is not a good feeling). On my next trip, I won’t be bringing any rifle that isn’t capable, on it’s own, of sorting out a DG problem. I know I’m in the minority here, but I won’t again have a rifle in a DG area that isn’t capable of pulling double duty. On that basis, I’d take the CZ over the Ruger single shot.

Not a single shot.

Does that help?

The calibers are both good. I won't carry a single shot in DG country.
