ozhunterThe report states that they get fired upon after a few fly buys at close range. Pitty it was not a gun ship in lieu of a photo plane.

oupaHere's the answer to that question.
"the crew flew over a suspected poachers' camp several times. On the third pass, a man with an assault rifle fired at the plane as it passed by just 150 feet (46 meters) above the ground. No one was injured in that attack, and Fay managed to snap a photo of the gunner"

Yes, a gun-ship! Aye to that.

lawndartThere must be a few Sukhoi-25 "Frogfoot" ground attack aircraft available. Three 23 mm strafing passes and there would be enough "shredded poacher" to fatten up a lot of hyenas and jackals that night.

WinkPoacher camps in Eastern Chad, as those in Eastern CAR, aren't necessarily comprised of just armed men. Frequently they are family groups and frequently they are herding their own cattle. Which means there are women and children. I doubt if either the Chadians or the French forces would fire on them from aircraft, even if someone took a potshot at them.
