Buffalo, tiger fish & birds combo?
Buffalo, tiger fish & birds combo?
Are there locations where tiger fishing is a good option on a primary buffalo hunt? I realize birds are an option almost anywhere, but how about a buffalo camp on good water for tigers? Bob

shakariPlenty - three that spring to mind are Mozambique, Botswana & Tanzania (in fact a very large percentage of African waters hold tigers).......I'm sure others will add to the list.....But it's always a good idea to stand well back from the waters edge because of the flatdogs.

465H&HAny of the camps along the Zambezi in Zim (HHK and Swainson's are two)offer tiger, bream etc. Twenty foot long fishing poles are popular with Zambezi bank fisherman in Zim.

shakariThen of course there's Lake Victoria..........there's even Nile Perch there.......
T.G. Safaris do tigers in Botswana and also buff. Try Tino, he´s usually got a few options on buff, birds and fish.

JudgeGIt was dry and late in the season.. hot as stink, too, but with HHK this past December, I saw lots of buffalo, elephants and tigers, all from a boat along the banks of Lake Kariba. I'll bet you could hunt from their house boat there and actually catch tigers from your bedroom. There was a francolin, goose or duck every forty yards along the bank of the tributaries, too. But... lots of those flat dogs!
JudgeG ... just counting time 'til I am again finding balm in Gilead chilled out somewhere in the Selous.

MacD37Just watch your front for Crocs,at any time and your back for Hippo in early morning! As suggested long poles are popular in Africa!

MoBrarNice pics Bwanamich.
I agree, plenty of good places in TZ for tiger. Here are a few pics of tigers Harpreet and I caught in Oct/Nov last year at our Ruhudji block.
We have excellent tiger fishing in 3 of our blocks: Ruhudji on Ruhudji river, K1 & K2 on the Kilombero River in the Selous.
And of course excellent buff, we've already shot several in K1 & K2 this month!
Please drop me an email if you'd like more details.

Balla BallaJust a quick pic of my brother Alan on his trip to Kenya where he had a short break from the rigors of running three Safari Hunting Ranches in Africa
WE can certainly do cape buff and Tiger Fish as well in Zambia
Regards, Peter
Thanks for the suggestions. One of the reasons for asking is that I have 2 friends who may be a go on a combo trip in the next few years. One is a fly fishing guide, loves to hunt, but has a hip relacement is not up to the long walks of buffalo hunting but would be keen on the fishing and bird shooting. For the 2 buff hunters, the cape buffalo would be the 1st focus, with fishing and birds once buff was in the bag. Bob

475GuyNice pics on those fish. So that's what Tigerfish look like, kinda like giant Piranha's. How big do these fish get, anyway?

About the pictures. The guy holding the tigerfish and the zebco spincast reel: Among fisherman, using a Zebco for tigerfish is like using a 45-70 for buffalo! Bob

Wow, I may be a new Zebco fan after seeing the size of the fish it landed!
Maybe I will get me a 45-70 for my next Buffalo hunt ...

ShumbaBig 5 probably has one of the nicest camps on the Zambezi River. They are in Chewore North (very remote)and the hunting is excellent.
http://wickedhost.net/bigfive/People actually go there just to fish for trophy Tigerfish. I have hunted there a couple times for buffalo/plainsgame and we would always spend a couple of afternoons fishing for Tigerfish.

MoBrarHi Bobc you EXACTLY right about using that zebco for tiger fish. That's my brother, he's not much of fisherman but somehow always gets the big ones! ...you had to set the drag quite light...plenty of broken line!
Besides our big game hunting company in Tanzania we also offer trout, nile perch and deep sea fishing in Kenya. If you and your friends would be interested in adding on a few days to your buff hunt check us out:

404RoddaI hunted with Buzz Charlton last November for trophie elephant bull in Big Five Safari's area in Zimbabwe. Its in the Zambezi River Valley right along the ole' Zam itself. Great tiger fishing. I caught a couple 11 and 12 pounders. Buzz also has access in the Dande area in Zim and tiger fishing is available there too. All dangerous game is avaible. I saw lots of buffalo and counted around 400 elephant.
