Matopos Hills
I'm curious about hunting in the Matopos Hills area. What opeartors can Americans hunt with in the area? Aside from leopard, what other game is likely to be encountered? Does the area feel "wild" or is it more like a Namibian ranch hunt?

Code4Try contacting Mark Butcher of Matapula Safaris.
Mark grew up in Bulawayo and surrounds, and if he can't help you will know someone who can.
The Matapos Hills are unique. They will blow you away. How wild do you want ? I hope you enjoy climbing bare rock.

ozhunterMost of the hunting areas in this area are fenced thorn bush land.
Pretty country but so is Namibia.
Big Leopard also.

GanyanaI grew up there- my favourite part of the world

NB- No shortage of leopards...

LeopardtrackI was there this past October.
If you want a Monster Leopard there is only one person to call...Wayne Grant.
The area is beautiful and you will see Bushman cave paintings as well, but there is not alot of plainsgame there. You will get Zebra, Wildebeest, Impala, but not much else. We shot an Eland, but that was a fluke. No Kudu in 14 days.
Don't go there expecting a plainsgame hunt, but you can't find a better place for a shot at a monster Leopard
BTW It is not fenced in at all like in RSA or Namibia. There are lots of people living in the area, but the land is wild.
PM me if you like.

L. David KeithScott, if you go there, be sure to visit Rhode's grave site. You won't need all day by any means, but it's worth spending an hour or two there. The lizards will entertain you as well.

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. McCrayWho is Grant hunting for now? I heard he was in RSA now...like a lot of white Zimbabweans.

BOWHUNRThe last I heard is that he had his own ranch in Kwa Zulu Natal and was hunting around that part of SA. But that has been a couple of years ago.

Use Enough GunWayne is now based out of SA, but still hunts Zimbabwe and other African countries as well, according to what I have been told. I met him in Zimbabwe at the old Victoria Falls Hotel in 2008, right after I shot my monster leopard with Wayne's friend, PH John Hunt. Wayne had driven up from SA to pick up a client who was flying in to hunt cape buffalo with Wayne in Zimbabwe, and we were fortunate to run into him at the hotel during high tea.

Code4The other 'game' to consider is varminting Dassies. There are millions of the little buggas.

LeopardtrackVaughn is correct. Wayne hunts on his own ranch in RSA, but still hunts monster Leopard near Plumtree in those special hills.

JTHuntNo question Wayne Grant is who you need to call. He is still in operation up there although he spends more time on his ranch in SA. His oldest friend and colleague Graeme Robertson is still on his farm in Marula on the edge of the Matobo Hills (new PC spelling BTW).
He is also a great hunter, operator and stand up guy.
