Gearhead JimThat reminds me of a story from bird hunting:
Two bird hunters are strolling along and see a cat stalking a bird. One hunter blows the cat away with his shotgun. The other hunter say "You shouldn't have do that, the cat was just following its instict to kill birds." The other hunter replies, "And I'm just following my instinct to kill cats."

Russell E. TaylorMonty Python's "The Meaning of Life."
Southern Comfort & 7-Up. I prefer the stronger Southern Comfort, not that 76-proof crap.
Thanks.

Russell E. TaylorI grew up with cats. I'd never kill a cat for such behavior. I suppose this will go off on a tangent that belongs over on the cat-killing "small game" forum... but I don't kill housecats for being themselves. I saw enough animal abuse and destruction when I was in Iraq.

Collins: HA! That is funny!

Russell E. TaylorWell, humans are higher-thinking creatures and we don't do things because of "instinct"... only in VERY few cases, like when a baby is thrown into water, it holds its breath, or when it senses it will fall, it reaches out to grab onto something. That's about it. We aren't creatures of "instinct" and anyone who claims otherwise is just looking for an excuse. "I'm a victim of my own instinct," et cetera. Kind of like Democrats supporting Kerry. Pure BS.

Russell E. TaylorI understand, Bill, but it's all perspective. When I was growing up in Illinois, the only cats I saw were in my backyard, or the neighbors' backyards. The only thing I ever saw them kill in the way of wildlife was an occasional sparrow, maybe a robin, or something along those lines.
I realize cats are predators, but so am I. That's the only reason I hunt, is because I'm a predator. I don't "need" the food, I can buy it at Hy-Vee. However, I eat what I kill out of respect to the animal. As for killing a domestic cat (and if they're in the wild, I guess they're not domestic -- but you know what I mean, those small cats that people sometimes adopt as pets) because it's a predator... I just can't do it. For me, it's a matter of professional courtesy.

Gearhead JimRuss-
Quit calling it BS! I tell my wife that hunting is an instinct!
(BTW, I have never shot a cat but would make an exception for a lion or leopard.)
