BwanamichZebra - Tough animals!! (PIC)
When this picture was taken, the animal still seemed very strong and alert and was walking about without difficulty. Difficult to say if it would eventually survive such a wound though?

Safari-HuntZebra Tough yes they are but surviving a wound like that without serious infection I doubt it. That is a sight we hardly see in South Africa unless you spend all your time in a big park. Imagine all the bunny huggers stumbling on this sight

I always try to use enough gun but then sometimes a brainshot works just as good.

They would want to call in the local vet!

Use Enough GunThat's one tough animal. It appears that the wound would easily be infected as it is so close to the anus and could be subject to not only the normal bacteria, but that found in the fecal matter as well. It would be right to put this one down, in my opinion.
I have seen animals, including zebra, that had healed wounds probably bigger than the wound on this one.

CanuckYikes.
I now have a visual for the old phrase of "getting your a55 chewed out"! May have to recycle this picture for intra-office use the next time someone gets an "a55 chewin'" by the boss.

Its amazing what animals can heal from...I wouldn't be surprised if this one made it.
The cape buffalo I shot while at Saeed's camp last year had a HUGE scar on its left side (which tricked the PH about its age). The scar was 4 ft long, from near the spine to the belly, and was about 4 or 5 inches wide. It went along just south of the ribcage.....it had to be close to spilling guts with the original wound. It was really amazing to see.
Cheers,
Canuck

Michael RobinsonI have been charged by two animals while hunting. A lion and a zebra. I had wounded both of them.
The zebra came closer to killing me than the lion.
That is a wicked wound on that one.

Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.
I would think that any infected flesh would be eaten away by maggots. Leaving the wouund to heal. The biggest threat to it would be stiffing up of the leg enough to slow it down for a predator to catch.

A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"

Sounds like a couple of quick stories are in order...
