465H&HI think that elephants are smart enough to realize in most cases that they are doing something wrong when crop raiding. That may be what leads to the increased stress.

jwmThe elephants are stressed? It's a good thing that the farmers are totally relaxed!

ddrhookI wonder how stressed the big bull was that used to sneak up to our water supply at Tsavo was. This old Bull would come in late at night and he would walk one very slow step at a time. It was obvious he was sneaking as quiet as he could. when he do to the in gowned water tank he would look around ans stand there for a few mins. Then he would place one tusk gently under the side of the tank top pry it open get a drink quickly and then leave the area fast. we had to fix the top of the tank several time. he stressed the crap out of us but I don't think he was stresses I think he thought it was a game. this old boy had lost a fear of man so we had to be really really careful when he was around. He would tear sysel(spelling) plants out of the ground and though them at us when we passed him in the truck on the runway
