J P BakerPH Christo Kaiser Killed in Botswana
Christo Kaiser, 40, owner of Unico Hunting Safaris in South Africa, was killed Friday, May 11, in Botswana. He was guiding clients on an elephant hunt, and was killed by an elephant.
His life ended doing what he loved, hunting elephant.
He is survived by his wife, Tania, three daughters, Talya, Lane, and Christi, his mother, grandmother, brother, and two sisters, and friends too numerous to list.

martinbnsThat is really too bad, I spoke to him last year before booking my July hunt, he seemed like a nice guy.

404WJJefferyI am in Pretoria now and spoke with his brother's x-wife, who spoke with his wife today. She said the papers got the day wrong, and that he was out scouting for bulls for a client, and was chargd by a cow with her calf. The tracker made it back to the truck, turned around and Christo was not there. He was not carrying a rifle, and was not ecpecting to encounter elephant (even though he was scouting for them?) and was unaware of the cow until she charged.
Botswana will not release the body to the family, pending examination, so they are going forward with a memorial tomorrow and cremation after.
404's story is the same as I got from Bobby Hansen (a PH from SA who knew the gentleman). Sad situation. Makes one think about going anywhere w/o your rifle.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

BwanamichIn another thread about "Africa's most dangerous Boo boo's" one of my "do not" on safari was exactly that, leave the truck without your rifle!
Never, ever get complacent or over confident in the bush. I feel for his wife and children.
