Quotes from Shipping Agent and Broker?
Just wondering if it is normal to get a written quote from the shipping agent and/or import broker before the hunt. I have chosen both but am not sure what the normal protocol is.

The only thing you will get from either is a fee schedule of their services. They, nor you, know what will be shipped home and via what method or when.

It's good that you are already thinking about these things DC. Most folks do not, at least not until their second trip-- and after the first trip's shipment went through a few hoops and hollers. Now, please do yourself a favor-- get references from the agent/broker. They, like a PH/outfitter, should be researched a bit. Personally I use Fauna and Flora and am very satisfied. Can't say that about one or two others.

I also use Fauna & Flora and have had nothing but good experiences with them.

Thanks for the replies guys. I have settled on Pam Foerster in Namibia, and Hunter International. My PH has a relationship with Pam, and Pam has a good relationship with HI. I am hoping that this will help things to go smoothly. I have heard good things about both here on AR. This forum has been a HUGE help in the planning of my first trip, and I am really glad I found it.

HI recommended Golden State Tannery in CA, and I am still looking for info on them. I plan to have the hides and skulls shipped to a tannery, and to then have finished hides and horns shipped to me. Need to space out the taxidermy costs.

Pam and Maria give excellent service, and everything usually goes smoothly. Your route is the exact same one I used my first Namibia trip. They did lose my shipment for 3 weeks, as it went to the home office for the freight contractor's they arranged to get it to GS, instead of straight across the Bay. Got it straightened out with a couple phone calls.

Can't say enough good things about Wilko Pascheka and Reiser for zebra rugs and nice backskins. GS does a good job with the tanned capes, but lately we have been having some trouble with them keeping track of everything well. Need to double check once in a while.

do a google search and you will find the Golden State Tannery website. as it turns out it is only about 75 miles from my home and i greatly appreciate your bringing it to my attention!! this will certainly be helpful in the future.
