RIP Carolinasman
It appears that John lost his battle with cancer on October 4. John had been heavy on my heart and heavy on my mind lately and I did a quick google search and saw his obituary. I know his daughter moved her wedding up and he was able to be there for that. I was able to exchange a couple emails with him and he was a damn good man....

John A. Ambrose

HAMPTON - John A. Ambrose, 49, passed away on October 4, 2013 at Riverside Regional Medical Center. John was a man who loved life and lived life to the fullest. John was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed working in the yard, hunting and fishing. Whether he was traveling the world or in his backyard, he was always quick with a colorful, interesting story. He loved spending time with his wife and daughters, brothers and parents in addition to his family and friends, of which he had many. John is survived by his wife Liz, his daughters Madison Hux (Tyler) and Sydney, his parents Jim and Pat and his brothers Dave and Jeff and their families. He was preceded in death by his son, Taylor, and his grandparents. The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 12th from 8:30 am - 10:30 am, and a memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 13th at 11:00 am. Both will be held at Peninsula Funeral Home in Newport News. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center at http://bit.ly/15TgKJW . Sad news. It was my pleasure to know him a bit via AR and emails. I trust he will see his Africa hunt come true the next time around.
Rest in peace and I will see you again.

May he rest in peace. He passed far too soon. Thoughts and prayers to his family.

God speed John, R.I.P. Now you can walk the hunting fields without pain! My condolences to his family, and friends!

I knew him only on AR, but had some PMs with him about his cancer treatment because he knew I am a cancer survivor myself at least so far.

He seemed like such nice person to me who's main worry was not for himself but for his family. He will be missed, by me, and I'm sure anyone who came in contact with him will miss him too!

Terrible new to hear. Having said this, I exchanged several messages with him and hoped he could make it out my way to hunt.

Unfortunately, great people leave early at times.

John, may you find at those pearly gates, a fine Single Malt, a double Rifle and as many Hundred Pounders as you care to chase.

Godspeed and I will meet you on the other side.

Here are a few excerpts from his last email to me on August 13th....

"I have been quite surprised and actually amazed at the level of support I received from many AR members, it's certainly gone a long way in restoring faith in my fellow man......

Thank you once again for your note, it meant a lot to me as have a lot of communications I've received from AR members. I haven't been very active on AR here lately, I'll have to log in a bit more often."

He appreciated all of the emails from everybody here. Apparently there were a number of guys that reached out to him. He is correct that there are some class individuals here on AR.
