Leopard Skull - What is "Good"?
I'm not heavy into the SCI scoring, but must admit I'm curious... I know a 14" skull qualifies for the "record book", but what is considered a "good" skull measurement? Specifically, how does a 17" rate?

Thanks!

A 17 inch Leopard skull would place it @ 22nd in the SCI Record Book.

How do they score them? Length and width like B&C? I have a 18 1/2 inch from Zim if scored like B&C cat.

They're scored the same way: length + width to the nearest 1/16th of an inch. If your measurement is accurate, it would tie for 4th in SCI. One heck of a Leopard!

What is good in a Leopard skull????....To find out go to the Rowland Ward Book of Records...I sort of resent the fact that SCI, with the instigation probably of Lord MacElroy, decided to scrap all the RW records and started from scratch....You can stuff the SCI record (?) Book in the crack where the sun don't shine....For true records.....Rowland Ward.

There!!!! I said it and I am glad.

petrosaf,

You are absolutely correct! This topic comes up from time to time and I firmly believe that putting something in RW is a great accomplishment but I don't even bother submitting to SCI. It's like being a member of a not so exclusive club to make an SCI minimum.

petrosaf and JohnTheGreek-rather than just spewing more negative crap, why don't you just enlighten us as to where the above mentioned Leopards would score or place in your beloved Roland Ward. IMO that they are both fine Leopards, and I would be proud to have taken either one of them. I will also add that scoring #4 and #22 is hardly near a minimum entry score.

mike,

Don't be so touchy for Christ's sake! [Roll Eyes] I never said anything about these cats . . . only that SCI is more about ego/money and the animals seem to get lost in the shuffle. To my mind, RW places a greater emphasis on the magnificence of the hunted rather than the wallet of the hunter.

As an aside, the minimum score for a RW leopard is nearly 1.5 inches greater than SCI. Guess SCI got a little desperate for cash. [Roll Eyes]

Have a nice day,

JohnTheGreek-exactly what is the Roland Ward minimum? Do you know what the minimum is for SCI?

I was just curious what the "norm" is for a leopard, and what made one special in terms of trophy size....SCI just comes to my mind first...

For whatever reason though, I personally do think in terms of "SCI" for African game, and "B&C" for North American species. Not too familiar with R&W (edit; nor P&Y).

Thanks again Mike for the info!

Regards,

Bill
