This is a great opportunity for us to help our fellow AR members. If you are booked, check with your PH/booking agent/hunting company to see if they might add a slot. Post the dates, terms, etc. Maybe a temporary forum category would be appropriate. Moderators?

I leave 8/19, return 9/9 for Mozambique. Cape buff, sable, croc, etc. There is still time to get a visa. I will contact booking agent this morning to see if there is room for one more. Main prob. would be air. I think I could get along with just about any AR member, and I think there are a lot of guys here who would do the same for me.

Brice,

At this point it may be a litte premature for cancelling a Tanzanian safari and rebooking a different country. I'm sure folks appreciate your good intentions but let's not do anything rash until we see if these rediculous fees are going to stick. As soon as I know something solid from Adam who is on the ground in Tanzania I will pass it on.

Mark

Uh, Mark, my plane leaves for Tanz at 8 am Friday.

I don't think it's premature.

I guess more specifically what I was referring to is are folks willing to cancel their safaris, perhaps loose there deposit or full payment and look around for another safari when nobody really knows how all this will shake out? There certainly could be a positive outcome in a short time. If that happens the people that cancelled could have made a big mistake. I agree for people leaving in the next few days for Tanzania it is a crap shoot.

I think outfitters who would not refund clients 100% after something like this occurred could be damaging thier credibility. These are by no means reasonable increases in the cost of doing business. I know it is fiscally difficult to do this, but it is the right thing to do. Outfitters acted as ambassadors for hunting in this nation and they must share the responsiblities of doing business there. I think you will see an even larger backlash if companies start telling clients "tough shit" about thier hard earned dollars.

Mark's right but so is LRH270.

Hunters leaving immediately need a plan "B"
Hunters leaving later should just remain calm.

I have an option for you, LRH, I think it is going to work.

No need to get a visa up-front for Mozambique you can get it at arrival at the border the problem you might have is a import permit for the firearms. This you can’t get on the border. Good look for your hunt. Where are you going to hunt in Mozambique?

Good hunting

Concession 12, N. of Beira, near the Zambezi. You're right about the rifle permits. I already have it-didn't take long.

Has anyone heard anything first hand. I mean first hand, not via a internet chat group or a friend of a friend whose hairdresser had a friend who read something on the Hunt Report.

I ask this because I leave this friday for the selous

This news is over a month old and in the intervening month I corresponded with my PH a 1/2 doz times including last friday and he has said nothing about fee increase etc

I've even gotten an invoice saying paid in full including 2 buff (7 day hunt) The PG fees have gone up however.

If anybody has first hand knowlege I like to know.

This isn't a month old. It was in the works all last week and announced on Friday July 13th.

I received an email from Zuka Safaris. It stated there concession fee went up 500% and in essence it said if the fees stick it no longer makes sense to do business. They are asking everyone to wait till the end of the week since the Tanzanian Hunting Operators Association has approached the president to reverse this decision. If this does happen the safaris will go on as planned if not they will return the deposits and/or reschedule the hunt for this year. A very fair approach to this situation. I think this is a group that Wendell Reich books for. Says a lot about their ethics.

I've hunted with Zuka twice. I would rate their integrity on par with any outfitter. Ryan will do what he says he will do. I was planning on hunting with them in 2008 but, now I'll just have to wait and see what the government does with this effort to extort more American dollars. Mad

No, it isn't, but I have the same confidence in my operators. Everyone I work with in Tanzania owns the rights to hunt their concession.

These guys are right. Nobody can take a $40,000/concession hit and keep running.

What is wrong with "RASH", I like rash, sometimes it takes rash to make your point. I don't wish to hurt the operators but if we send a clear message to the operators they will intern send a very clear message to their government. Sometimes (most times) it takes rash to get it done.

You can borrow money, but you can't borrow time. Don't wait, go now.
