Interesting Gift
One of my old employees sent me an interesting gift a few weeks ago. A signed and numbered copy of Lucky Bwana By Herb Klein. His father was a good friend of the famous Texan and international hunter. After his first East African safari he wrote and self published a book about his trip, to give to his close friends. His dad passed away a few years ago and Jim was nice enough to send it on to another hunter.

The book is a very cool snapshot into the golden age of African hunting. His safari was with Ker & Downey and he was accompanied by Jack O'Connor, as they traipse across still pristine east Africa.

What a great surprise, it now has a special place in my collection.

In Dallas Texas at the State Fair Grounds, in the Museum of Natural History, once upon a time they had several of Herb Klien's Trophy Animals on display.

I had seen them there several times.

A few years go by, then....
On one visit I had taken a friend to see Herb's Trophies.

To my suprise they were not on display.
I asked a Museum official what had happened to them.

He replied that Hunting had become not pollitically correct in the "Museum World".

I asked what had happend to all he trophies?

He replied, They are all down stairs in our offices, want to see them?

So my buddy did get to see them.

This was several years ago, I do not know where they are now.

I have a copy of that book also. Mine has a page at the front that says "Copy _____ of _____" and a place for a signature but there is no signature and nothing in the blanks. It came from an estate sale here in Dallas.

I would love to have hunted back then but I don't think I could have brought myself to use some of those bolt action rifles. If whorehouses had rifles the stocks would be pimped out like those in this book.
