If conditions are such that they requested troops from Rwanda, my guess is it isn't completely safe.

But, I'm sure the booking agents would tell us different.

Thanks my friend. Any booking agents here on AR that can respond with additional information?

I think like a lot of things, it’s location, location, location. Cabo del Gado province is a non starter. ArEAS farther south probably OK....

We are hunting in Moz the first part of September and have been keeping an eye on this situation. Currently it seems the problem is in the northern part as noted by jdollar, I wouldn’t hunt in or near that area, we will be near Biera, which is a long way from Cabo del Gado. Still a little concerned but not concerned enough to cancel.

Mozambique is larger than Texas. Yes there are serious issues in the extreme north, but plenty of the country is fine.

I recently returned from Mozambique. I was hunting near Tete, no problems whatsoever, except that SA wouldn't issue me a transit gun permit going to Moz! This may have changed I don't know.

The outfitter I work with has 7 concessions all over Moz and they are hunting all over right now including up in Niassa.

I’m supposed to go next year. Did you end up leaving your rifles or using the Outfitters?

Arjun, how did you transit SA with your rifle? We are headed to Moz in about 30 days and as of two days ago I was told that SA is still not issuing transit permits to Moz, but are allowing firearms to proceed if checked all the way thru to Moz from original airport. Another option proposed is to try and obtain a regular firearms permit for SA, but I don't see how that would work. I know hunters that are on their way to Moz right now and should know tomorrow how they handled the transit issue.

All this would be irrelevant if it was not for the bloody Chink virus.

Emirates had plans to start flights from Dubai to Mozambique last June.

Then non of you would have had to put up with South Africa!

You are so right. We went to Zim in March, had to fly Qatar as Emirates wasn't then flying to Harare when we booked our flights. Emirates flights to Harare began shortly before our arrival, would have been a much better option, even though flights at that time were sort of limited. Much better to avoid Joburg if possible.

Hi Karl,
I'm going at the end of September. Per Gracy Travel's guidance, I'm getting a regular SA gun permit, spending the night at the airport, and then continuing on to Mozambique. I sent them the link to the travel forum thread that brought up the issue of SA transit permits to Mozambique, and they've assured me that it won't be a problem going this route.

MNR,
I think we will have to try and get a “regular” permit as well if checking bags to final destination won’t work. Overnighting in Joburg is. It an option for us due to several factors, so hopefully we won’t have a problem. Anne at Air2000 Hunter Support is working on it for us and will have an update tomorrow, after hunters on their way to Moz arrive and depart.
