Bill CMedJet + MARS...
I have seen MedJet included in various outfitters "packages", and I have also seen it listed at up to a $500 line time cost (option).
Looking at the website, the prices listed are as follows:
14-Day Travel Protection Plan: $95 Individual / $175 Family
21-Day Travel Protection Plan: $120 Individual / $220 Family
Annual Membership Plan: $205 Individual / $325 Family

BlankNeed to look at the fine print for MedJet to see if it covers what worries YOU! Covers travel really well after you are hospitalized, but look for restrictions or problem areas. Other insurance plans (CSA, etc.) cover this same flight and hospital coverage. Should you need evacuation from the bush by MRI or MARS, that is another facet to look at.

500grainsThe Medjet policy I bought only covered evacuation FROM A HOSPITAL. So really you need both MARS and MEDJET to be properly covered.

Kyler HamannBill,
Blank and 500grains are right and may have the extra expense pegged with the addition of MARS or MRI, but another possible cause for the price discrepancy could be that Medjet just recently changed their rates.
Before a year or so ago I believe you were required to purchase coverage by the YEAR. Last year or a little longer ago they started allowing coverage to be purchased by the WEEK.
Is it possible the outfitter prices you're seeing haven't reflected this change yet?
Just a thought.

shakariI'm not sure MARS covers mebivac out of all parts of Africa. When we're in Tanzania we usually use AMREF for medivac cover.......I couldn't comment how good they actually are though as we've never had to use them.

BwanamichSteve,
Medjet and Amref actually do work together. The adavantage of Medjet in Tz is that they will evacuate you (using Amref planes and personnel) to a hospital of your choice (via nairobi or Dar I think). The other advantage is that with Medjet, you can negotiate with them and they will give YOU the decision on whether the patient need evacuation. Amref evacuate only life threatening situations and they decide whether to come pick you up or not.
you have to negotiate these with Medjet but as an outfitter, they will probably accept.
Happy hunting!
