Dwight shot a buffalo, and Maktoum shot an impala.

We had an interesting day checking baits.

Went to see our croc bait, and found a whole bunch of hyenas and crocs feeding on it.

There were seven hyenas in the water by the hippo, and one on the bank close to us.

This one was so blivious to our presence, at ne stage she was coming to within 10 yards of us.

No sizeable croc could be seen.

We then left and came across the tracks of a herd of eland.

We followed them for a while, it started raining slightly, and the wind picked up.

It was over cast and dark grey, which made it very difficult to see in the thicket into which the eland had gone.

We got to about 100 yards of them at one stage, but not much to see to be able to pick a bull.

Fave up and went to camp.

Fantastical !
Buy a donkey, buy a buy a donkey !

Could there be a third .375/404J this time, maybe Dwight's or Todd's?
Or just the usual A & B team rifles, same two as usual ?
IIRC Dwight was involved somehow with that wildcatting during the last century ?
But Dwight has a Ruger RSM with Swarovski scope in Warne QD-lever rings for Ruger ?
Maybe it is a .375 H&H ?
And PH with double rifle is which chambering ?
Alan is still carrying the .450 Ackley ?

Us gunnutts always want to know some gun details, please !

Is that lion old enough?

That leopard is beautiful but I sure can’t see any nuts on it. Any guesses on the age of that lion? I don’t have a clue in aging lions.

Excellent set of photos and they keep getting better.

Wonder what those black pods with orange tips are.

If you can knock off a full pod from the tree and preserve it, it makes an attractive home souvenir.
I salvaged one and still have it 10+ years later.

An interesting day.

Chris and Ray would attest to this.

Three times before, we somehow managed to see the same herd of buffalo as the others have been following, and I managed to shoot one or two.

We spent all morning putting up, and moving lion baits.

The lions have been having a feast on one bait, and we had another bait not far from there.

We put up a blind, and moved the other bait to the one with the blind.

Finished doing this by lunchtime and went back to camp.

In the afternoon we went looking for buffalo, saw tracks but they seem to go down wind into thickets.

We continued looking for tracks, and just after 5 in the afternoon, we spotted a herd bedded down in the valley.

The wind was going across, and we had to make a long detour to get downwind of them.

We got close, and I got on the shooting sticks, as they started feeding.

From our position, all we could see were cows.

Suddenly we hear a shot very close by.

The herd took off.

We ran after them, and as they stopped, we saw a good bull in the clear.

I shot him.

He took a few steps and dropped, and started bellowing.

For a minute we though some was doing to me what I did to both Chris and Ray.

We looked towards were the shot came from, and saw Maktoum and Pete.

They shot a buffalo too.

They have been following this herd since 8 in the morning!

So by sheer luck, we both managed to get a buffalo.

Today has been crazy.

The lion attacked our blind!

Almost collapsing on top of us.

He was very beliggerent, and we Alan had to fire a shot through the roof of the blind.

We got saved by the truck, as he would not leave us alone.

Quite an excitement, as it was pitch dark.

This morning Dwight shot an impala.

I shot a croc, hippo and 2 hyenas.

I have plenty of picture, including photos of the tears by the lion in our blind.

I forgot to mention that after that little fiasco, we thought we might be able to get a shot at him after sun up.

We heard him calling in the reed bed by the river close to the bait.

We went after him, and after a while decided it was not worth the effort, as the reeds are quite thick, and there were two males and one lioness.

We went back in the afternoon and sat at the bait.

He came a few minutes later, was looking straight at us in the blind.

A few minutes later, it was kabobi kabobi time.

Dang ! This is even more fantastical !
Those lion tracks on the top of your blind are some interesting viewing.
HA ! Five claw marks in one poke.
Can't get much more exciting than that and still be fun.
Shooting the sky to scare the lion off your blind top ! FUN !
And I thought this was living dangerously:

Great pictures as always.

You sure brained that dragon!
Damn, it don't even have eyes left.

You need to show the cat tracks to the
stupid woman standing a few feet from another
lion waving at it trying to make friends with it.

The latest instalment of photos are excellent. That croc's head is almost cleanly blew off. Held by a few strands of bone and meat.
