Four held for possessing ivory tusks illegally

Police in Dar es Salaam are holding three people, after they were found possessing 45 ivory tusks illegally, Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police Commander, Mr Suleiman Kova has said.
He said that the suspects were arrested yesterday at Changombe area in Ilala district at around 11:30am by a city Special Crime Response Team (CRT).
Mr Kova named the suspects as Salumu Shaban (32), Haruna Abdallah (30) and a city based driver taxi, Mr Salehe Hemed (40). He said the suspects had packed the ivory tusks in a taxi with the registration numbers T747 ALB. According to Mr Kova, the suspects would first be interrogated by officials from the Ministry of Tourism and Natural Resources before they are taken to court.
