Problems bringing in a T/C Encore Rifle into Africa?
I just talked to a friend (second hand story)who heard about a hunter having a bad time when he brought his T/C Encore rifle into Africa.

The problem came up because, supposedly, the T/C action was registered (purchased) as a Pistol, not a Rifle but had a rifle barrel on it.

He heard it got ugly and the hunter ended up in jail for a day or two. (I don't buy that)

But it raises a question.

I have a T/C encore that was bought as a pistol originally and I was planning to bring it with my 375 H&H barrel when I finally get to Africa.

Is this a possible problem?

Maybe in an African country that doesn't allow pistols.

Feedback please

I don't know what country that rumor is about, but I know people who hunt with Encores in pistol and rifle form and have no such troubles.

When you fill out the 4457 Customs form, have it configured as a rifle.
If a 4457 is accepted by the authorities in Africa, that is all the 'proof' you'll need.

Sounds like urban folklore to me. How would African officials find out it was registered as a handgun? What state is he from and does that state even have gun registration?

EXACTLY!! I hunted in SA last year with a Contender handgun and had no problems whatsoever.

How the hell would they know how it was bought in the USA ar anywhere else..The form from US customs only shows you own it with the Serial numbers matching...
If he had another barrel on the encore and numbers did not match..Now there is a problem...

The barrels aren't serial numbered, only the receivers. Again, urban folklore at it's best.
