cal pappasQuestion about importing trophies
Gentlemen:
I have been clearing my own trophies since the mid 1990s. They are shipped "in bond" to Anchorage and I clear it when F&G and customs do their thing.
Last year a buffalo and impala come from
South Africa. It flew SAA to Seattle and I had to have Coppersmith clear it and send it on a barge to Alaska.
I understand from the taxidermist and shipper in South Africa that many arilines won't carry a buffalo as it is one of the big five. So it could only to to Seattle where I had to hire Coppersmith.
Any idea why it can't be sent in bond to Anchorage even though changing shippers in Seattle?
I ask becuase the stop in Seattle nearly doubled the cost and this year with another buffalo and maybe a dozen plains game the cost could exceed 4-5000$.
Do you gents know if ocean freight can be in bond to Anchorage? Of course, the folks that tell me it must stop in Seattle are the same folks who profit from my shipment.
What say you all and thanks for commenting.
Cal

470EDDYCal,
You might want to consider using AHG Shipping from Johannesburg, you know Richard Lendrum, I am sure. Stipulate Atlas Air Cargo, they probably stop in Anchorage enroute to SEA or continue outbound through ANC?...or the commercial carrier that flies through Europe to ANC.
The problem in Seattle without "help" is that going from SEA-TAC to the barge line requires clearing in SEA...and transport to port. You might want to engage a friendly taxidermist with a truck to clear and deliver to port rather than a commercial carrier...yes, very expensive!!
Call me, we can chat.
Cheers,
