A fairly new member probably has a few observations when visiting here and would conclude the following after asking a simple question such as, "How many forum members does it takes to sight in a riflel?" -TONY



1 to sight it and to post that the rifle is now zeroed.



14 to share similar experiences of sighting in their rifles and how the one forum member could have done his differently



7 to caution about the dangers of sighting in a rifle



1 to move the thread to the gunsmithing section



2 to argue, then move it to the deer hunting section



7 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about sighting in rifles



5 to flame the spell checkers



3 to correct spelling/grammar flames



6 to argue over whether it's "sighting in" or "zeroing in" ... another 6 to condemn those 6 as stupid



2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "sighting"



15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry, and that "sighting in" is perfectly correct



19 to post that this forum is not about rifles, so to please take this discussion to the right forum



11 to defend the posting to this forum saying that we all use rifles and therefore the posts are relevant to this forum



36 to debate which method of sighting in rifles is superior, where to buy the best targets, what brand of target works best for this technique and what brands are faulty



7 to post URL's where one can see examples of different targets



4 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URL's



3 to post about links they found from the URL's that are relevant to this group which makes targets relevant to this group



13 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all headers and

signatures, and add "Me too"



5 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the controversy on guns



4 members to accuse 1 member of being a troll and for posting under 5 different names.



4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"



13 to say "do a Google search on rifles before posting questions about sighting in"



1 forum lurker to respond to the original post 6 months from now and start it all over again.

Unfortunately that is the price we all pay for being so bloody tolarant of others and allowing freedom of speech when In somecases we should consider liquidating the real bone head antagonists

On the bright side we can at least say there are a lot of people around with nothing better to do than follow the sheep to slaughter ...

That is a very well thought out post and I must concur with the overview

You forgot to mention the outdoor writer who gleans all this info to write an article for a hunting/shooting mag expounding "his" techniques for sighting in a rifle.

To go along with his previous articles,

Ever since I quit my job as a photo equipment sales rep 20 years ago to become a full-time writer/photographer, she's assummed I've been living on welfare and food stamps. And sometimes it seems that way to me, too.

Actually, between writing a second book, doing my normal freelancing and basically remodeling our entire house -- a project I started about 3 years ago with the trophy room, bathroom and kitchen -- I put in about 80-100 hrs. of work a week while you're off hunting somewhere. -TONY

The 223 will outpenitrate the .458 in steel, but not in flesh where the .458 is king...

Rusty, The 45-70 is no better today than it was back when, it just the best they had back then....I recall my dad and uncles all marveling over the fact that the 30-30, 34-40 and 300 Savage were better elk killers than the 45-70s that they grew up shooting and yes they handloaded the 45-70s with hard cast bullets...

I hate to bash the old gun as I used it a lot and I like it on deer and I dearly love the old 1886s, but this provoking BS of it awsome killing power is an insult to anyones intelligence that has used it on big heavy animals...It is a slow killer at best and does not have enough velocity to be effective...

I don't care who uses it as long as its legal, its not in Africa, so why does the question keeps cropping up.
