Very interesting to me from a scientific and research standpoint!
I'm all for bringing back animals is possible.
I hope and believe the Wooly Mammoth will be cloned in my lifetime.

We have to make allowances for The Guardian, which is hardly NewScientist, but the REASON the Northern White Rhino is extinct is the wedge forced into the original population by humans, which reduced the gene pools of the remaining populations to the point where they were no longer viable.

Now, we are being told that a gene pool of two animals is good enough.

That said, I'm all in favour of projects like this. Not necessarily for the resultant hordes of inbred, tree-climbing, banjo-playing Northern White Rhinos, but because of the advances that would be made in the technology.

All we need do now to finance this ground breaking research is for SCI to offer just ONE award for the first person who shoots one.

I bet some lunatic Wall Street nut will pay whatever is required!
