Pegleg223 in Africa
Is a 223 bolt rifle allowed in Africa? Would like to take a small caliber rifle for little antelope on my next trip.

Bill CollectorSome countries may have restrictions on "military rounds". If you are targeting small antelope..you can't go wrong with a 22 hornet.

GunsCoreI have taken one to Namibia with no problem. I used it for a cull hunt on Springbok.

Safari2Used my PH's 223 on a blesbuck and black springbuck last year in SA and it performed great.

Andrew McLarenThe .223 Rem - in a bolt action, or anything other than a semi-auto - is perfectly legal in South Africa. With quality hunting bullets it can be effectively used for springbok and anything smaller. Even blesbok and others have fallen to well placed shots with, what will be regarded by many, such a "to small" calibre. A well placed shot with a quality bullet from a .223 Rem is a much better killer than a flinched off shot from a .378 Weatherby Mag!
Enjoy your hunt!
