mstewart44Zimbabwe in December?
Probably going to hunt in Zimbabwe in December. Riverside Ranch outside Victory Falls near Hwange. What do I need to expect? Weather? Conditions? Suggestions?
I’ve never hunted Zim before, only RSA. “End of season deals” on the list. Thanks.

shotgun46December is usually wet and hot take your anti malaria meds. There are more mosquitoes and snakes at that time of year . But saying all that hunting should be good not as much pressure on game although visibility will not be as good as in June July . Good luck .

cal pappasI've been in the loveld two Decembers. All I could do is sit in front of an air conditioner. In the high country I could move around OK. The rain cooled the temps but it was humid. Scouted out some potential hunt camps and got stuck sveral times in the mud. Good gravel roads were fine to travel on. The trees are green so spotting game is more difficult and there is no tracking or waiting at or from water holds as water is everywhere. It's a good experience but hunting is not as easy as in our summer months.
Good luck.

MikeBurkeSeveral years back I hunted the Omay in late November and it was rather warm. After the hunt I spent some time in Bulawayo and then went to Hwange and Vic Falls for a visit. Hwange and Vic Falls, while warm, were really not that hot. Definitely more mosquitos in Vic Falls, and actually quite comfortable in Hwange.
Rain can make hunting difficult, it gives game many more options for water, change their patterns, and can scatter them over a wider area. Roads can become difficult to travel.
Keep in mind I live in South Louisiana so I am acclimated to heat and humidity.

BigBBearI have hunted this area with John Greeff probably 5 times. What are you hunting and what PH? I hunted Charisa with Keith Wall in early December 2012 and yes while hot, was not unbearable. You will find your mid day breaks longer. Riverside has a nice pool and fans in all chalets. Bill Bedford built camp in 90's I think. it is nice. I sent you a PM.

Todd WilliamsDepends on the rains really.
I hunted the Valley in December of 2013. We were hoping for the rains to have arrived and pushed ele's back into the area.
The rains were late that year and it was HOT HOT HOT and dry. I've hunted late October / early November a couple of times and it was hotter that December.
The last day we were there, the rains arrived and the temps plummeted. It was very pleasant after theat.
It's a gamble really. But that's hunting isn't it.

gunslinger55Since I don't get summers off for the foreseable future I will be looking at going at this time frame. Heat does not bother me I live in Arizona LOL. May be a better deal as well.

fairgameWho is Riverside Ranch?
Really if it is some fenced estate with a nice Lodge and air conditioning then why be bothered?
Prime time in Africa is generally from May to September.

mstewart44Riverside Ranch is outside of Vic Falls near Hwange. John Greff is the owner (or PH?) of the property. I’m likely tagging along with a friend with nothing in particular on the hit list. Buffalo, ele, plains game, late season deals, a mixed bag really. I hear it’s hot but I’ll have fingers crossed for good weather.
