The front blade is waffer thin and you may need a replacement.

I use whatever is on the rifle.

If using blade front, polish the brass bit, makes it a lot easier to see
AND possibly file it at a better angle so it catches the light.

Sights are in the eye of the beholder.

I have a ghost ring and a fine bead on my Merkel:

a look through:

Under good light conditions those can keep up with a 4x scope...as long as target is visible as well...partly hidden Buffalo at 50m+ shadowed and in the herd is a chalenge that only scope can deal with properly...of course you can always pass and wait Smiler

The angle on Mouse93's front sight is about what I file them to.

The picture looking through the peep sight shows how well it reflects
the light back towards the shooter in an even way.

In addition, it also does this (reflects the light back towards the shooter in an even way) regardless of where the sun is which can be a problem as if the sight reflects back with more emphasis on one side than the other it changes the POI of the bullet.

We tried it at a range one day where the sun started off in front and ends up behind us. The POI moved because the (unmodified) front sight was brighter on one side than the other. It is all sub conscious.

The other option is to have a small industrial diamond inserted into the front blade. This works really well.

I use three different peep sights on three different rifles. They all work.
