DhulimitiTsetse and Stomoxys biting flies
I have finally found a repellent that keeps these flies at bay. Repello - A green product available in SA and Zim. On my last 2 trips to the zambezi valley I was hardly bitten which is a testament in itself. Also great for mozzies and other biting insects.

DhulimitiHey Ozhunter I got mine from a company in SA called Equiproducts, I know they distribute into Zim as I got a resupply from a pharmacy there. Maybe drop them a line

and see if they can help - sorry not to be of more assistance. happy hunting down under!

Oday450Can you post the ingredients? We can then see if there is something similar available in different countries.

retreeverI have found Picardin found in the avon product line to keep off the tsetse flies and works all day. But cremes work better then sprays.

JIm YackleyRepello does not contain DEET, the active ingredent is GERANOIL. Do a google search on BUGBAND, can buy online via phone or at WalMart.I have not used the product, but based on the low cost will give it a shot.

DhulimitiI had a look at the repello wrist band but was not convinced that something on my left wrist would keep a thirsty Tsetse off my right calf

I have found creams to be a bit of a problem when hunting esp. if they are a little greasy.
Retreever - I have heard some of these work, but never had any luck in finding one.
The repello products are what I am sticking with, no grease, smell good, green and reasonably priced

SaeedWell, I have not found ANYTHING that works 100% against tse tse flies.
Mossies are easy to keep off with many different repellents.
But, In the past couple of years, we have been trying our own concoction, and it seems to work as well as the Avon product.
It is basically 33% each of DEET, mosquito repellent and sun cream.

LionHunterPurely anecdotal, but a hunting partner (who happens to be a cardiologist) and I have both been made sick by the fly bites in the past. We used the 3M Ultra-Thon - developed for the U.S. military - in both Zambia and Mozambique and noted a distinct diminished amount of bites. I'll be using it again in Zim next week.

SevensThere was only one day I got bug bites (including from tsetse flies) and that was the day I didn't wear the Avon Skin-So-Soft "Bug Guard." A PH in camp said it was the only stuff that worked on tsetse flies, I gave him the rest of what I had to use up.

shooter1971A user of Repello RepellX recently returned from Zimbabwe and told me that RepellX was the ONLY product that worked against the Tsetse Fly. I have used RepellX for the last 3 years and I swear by it. Wouldn't use anything else.

LionHunterI have made arrangements to have ten bottles - 2 to 3 days worth per bottle - waiting at our charter aircraft when we arrive in Harare in 4 days. I was told there was no supply currently available in Zim, so it is being flown in from RSA.
I'll let AR members know how it works after my return.
