kallie404Another hunting legend passes
Its with sadness that I got the news this morning that a personal friend and hunting legend from Zimbabawe, JPS Meyer ( Jannie ) has passed away after complications from a operation in Harare. JPS Meyer started Lowveld Hunters in 1969 and he was still hunting actively until recently. Both JPS sons, Jannie JNR and Stephen are also well known and respected PH's and Outfitters in Zimbabwe
Was a real honour to have known Oom Jannie and whenever he visited me we could not get enough of his Rhodesia bush war stories and his hunting stories.
A big Leadwood tree has fallen in the Zimbabwe Lowveld. Rest in peace

surefire7I didn't know him, but I'm sure we're all diminished when we lose one of these African Pioneers.
Condolences to the family.
Damn - JPS was one of the great characters! Condolences to the family! We had a lot of laughs.
From my friend Nigel Theisen:
Shame man. I knew Jannie well. My first job as a full Ph I hunted for him and Charles Davy who had unit 2 matetsi (diamond T) 1985.

bwanamrmCondolences to the Meyer family!
On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!
