Wildlife officials say plans are now afoot to replace the captive lion population with pure Asiatic stock, possibly through fresh breeding programmes using animals from the Gir Wildlife Sanctuary in the western Indian state of Gujarat.

"Fortunately these are still available," said zoo director Kuldip Kumar.

So they will 'take' stock from an endangered population to re-populate their zoos after proof of their pitiful and pathetic attempts at zoo animal "management".

The Gir species is doomed.

cewe,

This is more socialist bullshit than anything else. The Hindus do have their faults but hunting is as much in their tradition as in any other in the world. They were also good conservationists and many of the reserves in India today were former hunting preserves of the zamindars and Maharajas. It was the socialists under Indira Gandhi who took the land away from them and gave it to tribals, farmers etc, encouraged poaching and then came in with even more silly laws which turned a vibrant ecology and industry into a basket case.

And these are the folks we are outsourcing so many American Jobs too....

And also selling three times as many Chevy Optras as Toyota Corollas to.

Maybe you should sell your services to General Electric, Citigroup and Microsoft. They are the biggest outsources to India and could do well to learn from an expert like you.

NitroX,

Sadly, not only the Gir lions, I feel sorry for the tiger - in India, it too, is doomed. Wish the socialists were extinct instead of them!

GeorgeS,

I'd agree with you fully. We could start with Jason Baker and his PETA clown show which operates from India these days. The problem with this is that Lions may not want to eat garbage.
