patrkyhntrTrophy insurance?
Perhaps this is not the correct forum to discuss this, but perhaps it is. Do any of you have thoughts on whether or not to carry SCI's trophy insurance? I am getting a fair collection of heads and life mounts, and wonder if I should insure them. My homowner's insurance covers nothing much. Thoughts?

BOWHUNRI have wondered the same on my ever expanding collection. Has anyone priced it out?

patrkyhntrI have priced it out for my collection of taxidermy mounts. You can do the same at
Trophy ins. applicationIn order to get a quote amount, you pretty much have to go through the entire application. The amounts they insure your trophy for are less than what it would cost to go on a trip, get another specimen of the same animal, and in some cases, mount it. The insurance amounts are higher than what you could get by selling the mount, though. For example, they would insure my life mount of my grizzly for $11,600. In most cases, a hunt for a grizzly would cost more than that. For my more modest collection, it would cost me about $750 per year. Small price to pay if my trophy room was burned to the ground or if someone came in and stole all my mounts. Expensive if you don't ever have to file a claim. What I was wondering was if others insure their collections, and whether or not others use this particular insurance.

bulldog563Definitely get the insurance. I was talking to my taxidermist a couple months ago and he told me a story about how a client of his with a trophy room over 2 mil had a party one night. To cut a long story short his entire trophy room was burned to the ground.

bo-n-aroThe SCI insurance is a "replacement" insurance, which would include the cost of the hunts to replace your trophies!

MACI've got he insurance. I consider it a minor expense. If something happened to my collection, at least I'd get something out of the deal and could go on another safari. My collection has a 'replacement' value of about $85k. For that money I'd be able to go do a Bongo, Lord Derby and Mtn Nyala.
I wouldn't use the money to replace an impala for example, but would use it to bankroll a high dollar hunt. I've got plenty of pictures of the animals in other places than my house, but have never figured out a way to bankroll a hunt for the glamour spiral horns. The insurance would allow me to do that is something does happen. I have my rifles insured for the exact same reason.

patrkyhntrThanks for the responses. I am leaning toward getting the insurance for the reasons you folks outlined.

butchlocI looked at it and dismissed it on just a pure cost basis. It would have cost more than my household insurance. Must have been the insurance rates, cause I know I haven't shot enough animals yet.
