LionHunterJerry,
Surely you know that the sequence of posts changes each time a new post is made? So saying to "look 5-6 posts below" does virtually no help whatsoever.

jdollarI figured it would at least point him in the right direction. I am always amazed at the questions posted here that are answered 8-10 posts or less below the question.

I assume the 'The Elephant Question: Is Culling the Answer?' thread is what you are refering to jdollar?
If so, thanks for the 'right direction' advice.
I hadn't read the thread as I am not interested (yet) in Elephant hunting, and I was looking for the key words 'Botswana', 'hunting', and 'reopening'. I guess since I typed those words into the FIND function, nothing came up, as that thread title did not contain any of those words.
Anyway, that thread discusses only Elephant hunting/culling, and I was wondering if all hunting was being considered in the closed gov. concessions. I know hunting is allowed on private farms.
Thanks again jdollar for your assistance.

By Mbongeni Mguni
September 11, 2018, 10:38 AM CDT
Botswana will hold a month of public hearings to decide whether it should lift a ban on elephant hunting as farmers in the nation that has the world’s largest population of the African variety of the world’s biggest land mammals complain the animals are damaging their crops.
President Mokgweetsi Masisi will meet with wildlife researchers in the northwestern town of Maun on Wednesday to mark the start of the consultations, according to an emailed government statement. The report from the hearings will be submitted to cabinet next month.
Lawmakers in June asked the government to review the ban, which was introduced by Masisi’s predecessor in 2014. Critics of the ban say elephant populations have grown rapidly and others have come from neighboring countries to seek refuge from poachers, prompting an increase in human deaths and declining incomes in farming communities.
There are at least 130,000 elephants in the sparsely populated southern African nation, or roughly 1 per 18 citizens.
Maun is a main tourist hub, with as many as 1.9 million travelers forecast to visit the nearby Okavango Delta wildlife sanctuary this year. Last week, the advocacy group Elephants Without Borders said it had uncovered a massacre of 87 elephants near the delta. The government disputes the group’s claims, with Masisi saying the report was exaggerated to thwart the review of the hunting ban.
Tourism is Botswana second-biggest source of foreign exchange after diamonds.

PoyntmanI was at Tholo last week with Clive...
It appears that they are very likely to approve 300 Elephant tags for 2019.
Divided between Trophy and Management etc.
The outfitters like Clive, Johan, etc will go and bid on tags once the areas like say NG9 or wherever are approved.
He seemed very bullish on it happening and as many here know he has very direct knowledge of the political landscape

Safari2I would be shocked if it did not happen.

MARK H. YOUNGClive does know what goes on in Botswana. He has said all along that it would reopen. Good news for sure. Let's hope the prices are not sky high but I'm betting they will be.

I asked that Mark...
The Trophy tags are likely going to be quite expensive. Won't know until they auction the tags, but likely cost of a trophy bull will be every bit of $60-$80k++ and they will easily sell them
The management hunts I'm hoping will be mid 20's or 30 ish??
That's the hope... but supply and demand! Demand will be high and thus the price will be.
They need to issue 3,000 tags...not 300

Safari2My only question is will they issue any buffalo quota?
I would hope they would.
