260 and 300 Gr?

260 and 300 Gr?

I am going to be hunting buffalo and sable next year. What are the opinions of taking 260 for the sable and of course the 300 gr. for the buff? (The caliber is 375 H&H.)

I'm tempted, but I may just say the Hell with it and use the 300 soft-point on the sable and not have to worry about two points of impact or scope adjustments. Maybe it's better to keep it simple. I figure I'm good-to-go with the 375 H&H to 200+ yards for the sable.

The Nosler 260 did fine on all my shots in Namibia, but my Zim trip in Sept will use all Northfork 300's. Soft and solids when appropriate.

May I suggest you use good premium bullets, preferably in 300 grains weight, for everything.

That is what I have been using for years, and have never regretted that decision.

I have shot buffalo, lion, leoprad and all the plains game, including the little ones like klipspringers with this combination.

I have used Barnes X 300 grains, and our own Walterhog bullets, also in 300 grains.

Kensco,

By all means, say "to hell with it" and take 300 grain loads.

I've used 235s for plinking and 260s for Stateside hunting, but have never found the 300 wanting as a "go-to" load for everyday (and they hammered my sable!).

I know the 260 Accubond has been used successfully on buffalo but I think I'd stick with the 300. You might need the additional bullet weight if the shot was not a perfect presentation. Also I think you might be asking for problems with 2 different bullets and bullet weight. They'll shoot to a different POI making it necessary to re zero and surely you'll see your buffalo when have a magazine full of 260's or the other way round.

Ditto, as everyone has already said, stick with the 300 grains in a premium bullet and you'll be happy.

The 300 grain for both is the best advice. Use a softer bullet like a Trophy bonded on the Sable and a Swift A-frame for the Buff.

For Buffalo I like two bullets in particular. Number one is the North fork Cup point. and number two is the Northfork flat point solid.

I have used the Woodleigh 300 and 350 gr. softs on buffalo and I prefer the 350 gr. as it is very destructive and penetrates better than most 300 gr. bullets.

I like heavy bullets for buffalo. and in the .375 particularly I want a cup point or solid as I may not have a broadside shot opertunity.
