BVC rumour?
Some chat about the BVC changing hands and hunting ceases for 2020?

Could just be loose talk I suppose.

That would be a huge loss. Such a magnificent concession. Hope this is part of the African rumor mil.

I thought there were multiple landowners in the Conservancy. Hard to see it "changing hands". And how does one NOT hunt a fenced area? Even KNP had to be managed .. and is still to some degree managed by granting quota in the adjoining private areas.

There is fixing to be a new “majority shareholder” and there is talk of the above mentioned...Andrew has it right.

Hopefully though in the end...it will stay a hunting destination.

Just to clarify Andrew...are you saying you very much doubt that it stays open to hunting?

Isn't it strange that areas like BVC in which hunters have stocked and preserved wild animals are sought after by people who are going to do just the opposite.

Just chatted with a PH that operates in the BVC... A change in some ownership is taking place and that there will be some changes for 2020 on what game animals that will be allowed to be hunted... The hunting part is being worked on. More information on who is acquiring part of the BVC and what hunting remains will be forth coming when the deal is completed.

Just to put these rumours to bed once and for all.
Hunting is continuing in the BVC and bookings for the 2021 season will open at the end of the 2019 season, as has been the usual procedure in the past.

No on the Cattle issue it will remain a hunting destination. The new part owner is a hunter and conservationist. Of the Big 5, Leopard, Cape Buffalo plus plains game will still be hunted.

What will they do with their lions? I was under the impression the BVC lion population was not sustainable without the income to off set the lion’s presence without hunting lion.

Buffalo and plains game may pay the bill. However, I bet the profit comes from the lion.

Think of it as a private concession. It is a conglomerate of cattle ranches that in the 80s removed interior fencing and replaced cattle with game. I think there is a perimeter fence mandate by the government. The place is huge at 850,000 acres. There is an active lion research project going on, and I think black rhino are they property.

It is believed that one of the syndicate of investors in Mushingashi here is Zambia and I presume the BVC Anders Holch Povlsen lost three children in the recent terrorism atrocity in Sri Lanka.

Holch Anders Polverson has huge areas of Scotland that is/was to be returned to a natural state.
Is he pro hinting?

I haven't heard this, though asking around. The whole reason Bubye Valley became a conservancy is that the land wasn't suited to other uses, so I'm sure hunting would remain on the cards. Conservancies aren't cheap to run.

Yes and on top of that will look to acquire adjacent properties to form a larger, contiguous conservation area.

I cant say he is pro hunting but he allows hunting on he´s land. H e is the biggest land owner in Scotland. He is also a passionate environmentalist and has a 200-year-old vision to ecological restoration of the land. He has also declared the Victorian model of the Scottish sporting estate dead. For myself its always risky to sell away so much country to a single person like this.

Lol what does that mean ?

Obviously this man is rich/billionare and spends a lot on wild life and bringing back the land as it once were. But with that said, some hunters like and some dont - wolves, lynx etc being added/introduced only that is a big divider

The Toyota guy in Tanz did the same thing or ? Everyone has a vision on whats the right way to go.

If it turns out good for hunters we can only wait and see

Anton,

As you suggested the man is a passionate environmentalist and ecologist, not exactly pro-hunting, though allowing hunting on his land.

Wouldn't you think he would be more than likely lean towards the other side if pressed as I don't think he's the type to invite or be put in the limelight with negative publicity.

The "Toyota" guy in Tanzania created a sort of private hunting reserve and I believe very much pro-hunting.

Maybe Bwanamich could contribute some factual information on how TGT conducted its business.

I heard TGTS had tweaked a few things and is back hunting...is that true?
