The AR FREE Buffalo Hunt
Ladies and Gentlemen,
As you all know, AR has always been free from any commercial sponsorship, and as far as I am concerned, it will remain so.
I have had many people who have expressed interest in supporting the site, and I have always thanked them for their kind gesture, and declined their offers.
Some of these people have been very persistant, and I finally had to give in and accept.
However, I laid down just one condition. AR will NOT have any banners of endorsements showing on the site. We will use those donations for a free hunt to offer our members.
So here is the deal.
This is a 16-day hunt in the Selous
One hunter and one observer with Pierre van Tonder Safaris.
Dates are as follows:
Hunt is for next year, 200628th of July arrive in Dar Essalam
29th of July fly out to camp
30th of July to 14th of August hunt
15th of August fly back to Dar Essal and in the evening fly back home.
Hunt includes all daily fees and trophies for the following animals:
2 buffaloes
1 Hartebeest
1 Impala
1 Waterbuck
1 Warthog
1 Nyasa wildebeest
1 Zebra
1 Topi
Import duty for 2 rifles
One night shared hotel room for one day before the hunt, and half a day at the same hotel after the hunt.
2 return air tickets from the country of origin of the winner, to Tanzania.
Anything that is not specifically mentioned above, is NOT included.
The rules are very simple.
All AR members, with a minimum of 100 posts to their credit AS OF TODAY, are eligible to enter.
Please enter your Forum ID, and the number of posts you have as an answer to this thread.
Any comments or should be posted on a seperate thread, NOT this one.
We have not finalized the method of drawing as yet. It could be something as simple as dropping names into a hat and drawing the winner, or it could be something so complicated that even Walter won't understand it.
At the day of the drawing, we will draw two additional names. These will be our Standby One and Standby Two Winners, in case the winner cannot make it, for any reason, Standby One will take his place.
This hunt is NOT transferable. The winner has to go or the next in line does.
The winner picks his companion observer.
Additional animals can be hunted, but the trophy fees have to be paid by the hunter.
Upgrade from economy class air tickets to either business or first class is also possible, as long as the winner pays the additional costs.
Upgrading the hunt from a 16-day hunt to a longer hunt is also possible, proving hunting days are available and the winner pays the extra charges.
Needless to say, our decision on the method of the draw to decide the winner is ours alone.
This draw is open to all members of AR, including the Moderators - except me and Walter - as long as they have the required minimum number of posts - 100 as of today.
This will remain open until the 15th of June. The name of those who wish to enter will be collected, and a winner is drawn and before the end of June.
Just a reminder, though, those who do not have 100 posts to their name, cannot make it up and post their name towards the end of this draw. The rules require that you ALREADY have 100 posts today.
Good luck to you all.
Your name on the forums and number of posts you have ONLY PLEASE on this thread.

Magnum Hunter1Saeed,
How about us folks that had our profile that would not transfer to this new sight. I had to re-register as MagnumHunter1 as opposed to MagnumHunter back in January??????? I had a few hundred posts before the website change.

Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue.
What I have learned on AR, since 2001:
1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken.
2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps.
3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges.
4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down.
5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine.
6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle.
7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions.
8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA.
9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not.
10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact.
11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores.
12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence.
13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.
