Where to start hunting the tiny ten

Singleshot03Where to start hunting the tiny ten
I have hunted duikers unsuccessfully a few times. Is there an area or part of a country that has more different species of the tiny or pygmy antelope than others?

Bwana338I have passed up the duikers in South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe (Zimbabwe is where the PH wanted me to shoot one with a 22 rim fire). most were spotted from 10 to 30 yards away.
we came up on them while out hunting and they usually stood there looking. PH's have said that when he has been looking for them, they always are running and not standing around so you could take pictures.
So the Zula Land area in South Africa is a good start and most of Namibia has one or more to look at. Zimbabwe we saw them daily leaving camp and then bumping into them working the river/creek bottoms.

the PomEastern Cape, S.A. Try Victor Watson, Korea Wild Safaris. He is on this forum. He will get you Bush Duiker, Blue duiker, Cape Grysbok, Klipspringer, Mountain Reedbok, Grey Vaalbok, Steenbok. I got Klipspringer, Mountain Reedbok and steenbok with him before lunch on my first morning. The others take a bit longer.

crbutlerEastern cape has the most of the species in one location, but you will need to go to multiple countries if you want to get the full tiny ten... it also matters who's definition of it you are using... as some have different required species involved (ie, some specify cape grysbok or Damara Dik Dik.)
I specifically went to an area (Mozambique) for the Suni/Red duiker. The rest were adjuncts to other hunting I was doing, so I am not a good one to say on specifically hunting for them.

Use Enough GunI've taken the tiny ten. Depending on what you consider the tiny ten, I have taken the following critters in three countries-South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe. Livingston's Suni, Red Duiker, Blue Duiker. Vaal Rhebok, Oribi, Klipspringer, Grey Duiker, Damaraland Dik Dik, Mountain Reedbuck, Cape Grysbok, Sharpes Grysbok, Steenbok. Charl van Rooyen of Infinito Safaris can set you up on a 'bucket list' hunt to take many of them in one safari, if you have the time. I took a number of them with Charl, hunting all over South Africa. It was a fantastic hunt and one of my most memorable Safaris.

Singleshot03Thank you for the advice. Victor Watson has a very informative website. I also opened an SCI magazine and Craig Boddington has an article about hunting the tiny 10. I took that as a divine sign.

Thank you Jim
Drop me an email, we love hunting these little guys and would be a pleasure to guide you. Helped a hunter from Nevada last week add 3 specimens to his collection - klipspringer, cape grysbuck and vaal rhebuck. Steenbok, blue and common duiker and oribi also occur in our area. Have access to red duiker in KZN.
