Elephant Hunting
Elephant Hunting
After years of saving I went on my first elephant hunt last year. I thought that this would take care of my elephant obession once and for all. Two elephants and almost a year later my addiction is worse. I think that I am going through "withdrawl." I will not have enough money saved until next year. I need another "fix" bad. If this is what being hooked on drugs is like I will be in hunting rehab soon. Any help or suggestions with my problem would be appreciated.

JudgeGI took my first elephant in December of 2005, the second in March of 2006 and the third in March of this year. I'm booked again for March 2008 and December 2008. I wonder if I, too, suffer from addiction?
Only the first was a C.I.T.E.S bull. I feed my habit with P.A.C. hunts and investing in Nigerian banking offers.
JudgeG ... just counting time 'til I am again finding balm in Gilead chilled out somewhere in the Selous.

LabmanI know the addiction. I shot my first elephant (PAC bull) a few weeks ago and I can't stop thinking about the hunt. Somehow I don't think another plains game hunt will scratch the itch.

So far I have taken 2 CITES bulls 2001 & 2004. About a month ago I took a PAC bull in ZIM. Just as much fun but at a affordable cost. So that makes 3 for me and I am not ready to stop yet. I would like to try a cow hunt someday and in fact we had a cow tag this year but chasing and not shooting a leopard took up all the time.

bwanamrmBigB,
Were you able to use the Winnie .416 you bought from me and if so, how did she do?
BTW, I am hooked on eles, too. And buffalo... and now leopard.... and soon to be lion.... damn this addiction is bad!

yukon deltaI've only been home a week since my first ele and Bill Campbell was laughing at me today...I was trying to figure out what I could sell to go again. I will also admit to having a strong urge to do a backpack hunt for buffalo. All of this should take place with Charlton McCallum Safaris of course. My opinion is that once you find someone you like to hunt with you should not mess with a good thing.

No help to offer.
Just take one day at a time.

As a child I was schooled on the dangers of drugs and how they could ruin your life. Then, as an adult I have witnessed the addictive properties and the results of heroin, cocaine and amphetamine addiction. They are life destroying addictions. Thank God I was able to resist.
However, no one warned me about safari hunting. Now I'm a grown man and find myself spending money on this new addiction with abandon. Worse yet, I am looking towards an elephant hunt, even knowing that this addiction will be worse yet. Go figure.

465H&HThe only cure that I know of for elephant hunting fever is a full frontal lobotomy. Even that only works 50% of the time.

bwanamrm,
I used the 416 I got from you and it worked fine. Heart shot it went about 100 yards although I did shoot the whole magazine plus 2 extras at him. It turned out to be about a 35 pound bull shot near a cornfield at the Sizemba school house.
The 2 before this were shot with a 470 double and while it might rile some I prefer the bolt gun with scope.

riverman1I think there is a 12 step program for this
Step 1: Send all your rifles to me.
Step 2: Quit the program and buy more rifles...it won't help anyway.

AtkinsonThe best antidote for me is shooting buffalo, it makes me forget about hunting elephants and since Safari Companies no longer give booking agents elephants, one must cope. buffalo really help.

BigB preferes a bolt rifle with a scope, and I'm glad he does, because I now have his 470NE double rifle, and it is a pure pleasure to shoot and hunt with!

Congratulations BigB on you third ele!

Mac,
Thanks, your 470 does a good job on ele and buff. A PAC hunt is a fun hunt for a much reduced cost. I did not hunt buffalo this time and regret it. I hope your 470 gets a chance to go back to Africa and of course you with it.

Go get-um Mark! Now that I can make a little longer range plans with the longer time between doctors, I may do a short Buffalo hunt next July, or August! Good luck!

Wendell, that's why they give away crack pipes and why the first few rocks are free.
