Big Wonderful WyomingNew safari clothes
What's the best thing going these days in safari threads?

elk88101Hello
Gander Mountain has a great shirt and pants made with rip stop material.
I use it exclusively.
High resistance to thorn tears. Also resist soiling.
Also when wet dry very quickly. Like $40 for pants and same for shirts both long sleeve and short.

I think the zipper extends all the way to the back.

The way the Hook deals with pigs, they have to be durable.

I can't comment on dodgy headgear but tyre sandals are the dog's doo-dahs for comfort!

Big Wonderful WyomingGander Mountain had a Craig Boddington safari line, but I can't find them anywhere, I am guessing they are closed out.
Too bad Willis and Geiger isn't around anymore eh?
17 December 2012, 04:17
LionHunterThe Willis & Geiger stuff was the real deal. Authentic bush cloth done right. I still have two of their LS safari shirts.

prof242I wore 511 on my safari two years ago. Also wore it while on contract in Iraq two years. have been wearing it here in the US and finally had two pair of my five pair of pants wear out. That's over 5 years of wear. Seems they were worth every cent my company paid for them.

MikeEI also wore the 5.11 shirts as well as Columbia shirts in Namibia in September.
The LL Bean pants with zip off pant legs were great - needed the warmth in the early am, but unzipped before lunch. Only got one small tear in 2 weeks of thorn bushes, my legs and arms were not as lucky.......

Also resist soiling.
You should try wearing briefs, will help with that soiling problem. A nappy may work too.

drwesJust a heads up on the Gander mountain clothes line,,, They do have some good quallity hunting apparell, I have a store within 30 miles of my house,,, BUTT,,, their sizing is never consistent. Be prepared if you order on line to possibly have to send back. I have to try on every single item I buy there to make sure it fits. I have asked their staff what the deal is and they just say,, better try them on. I have held up pants next to each other with the same size on it and there be better than 4 inches difference in length,, same brand, same size same color etc....
you can make more money, you can not make more time

joesterI have bought loads of nice hunting shirts at thrift stores...$65. shirts for 2 or 3 dollars...Just found a NEW XL Pendleton wool for $6., retails @ $99. I have the collar & sleeves removed from cotton & linen shirts for hot weather hunts in FL, TX & Africa...plus, the $ goes to charity (plus a donation)

Gayne C. YoungI really liked my JL Powell shirts but I don't think they make anymore.
I just got some Boyt Harness shirts. I like them but have yet to take afield to test
27 December 2012, 04:19
jwmCarhartts. Wore them on safari, wear them at work. Comfortable, durable, available everywhere.
The three pairs of Carhartt work pants that I took to Africa in '09 are still in great shape, and remind me of Africa every time I put them on...an unexpected bonus at work!

Well, Eddie Bauer is adding (back) a line of sporting clothes geared towards the hunter. You can find them online.
On another note, I was in Filson yesterday morning at the flagship store and I swear I had walked into the Gap or something...really odd...guys wearing skinny jeans, hipster looking outfits trying to sell FIlson goods. Their stuff has become de rigueur for the metrosexuals of Seattle. Ladies with their husbands were trying on waxed hats and jackets saying how the folks "Back home" will think it's lovely....
It was like a bizzaro world event...

mel5141I don't think the Filson situation will improve under current management,
I read a piece about the change in control/management a year or so back and noted the then new CEO had come over from the Ralph Lauren/Polo organazation.
I know that calling up there and finding anyone who knows anything about old line Filson products is a waste of time...
