Has anyone pursued obtaining (or better yet obtained) permits for taking from here and using in Africa a current gen thermal imaging sight? I'm aware of the US laws; just wondering if anyone has pursued it.

I believe you only need a permit for export resell, not personal use. Plenty of new gen thermal scopes being used in Africa.
