I can recommend Bethaven Safaris very highly. I've been there twice and you will find several recent hunt reports about them here on AR. [There is one now and two more from late October.]

If this looks interesting at all please contact me, when I last talked to them they were offering several reasonable packages that would make a very nice hunt!

When my buddy and I both hunted there last year we also spent about two additional weeks driving from Kruger Park all across South Africa to Cape Town and we still spent under $12,000 combined in total [not counting taxidermy.]

Check out Kikuyu Lodge is RSA. I hunted with them for 10 days in May and had a great safari. I believe they offer a package for around $5,000. Lodging and food are great. You may also want to look into Blauukrantz Safaris also in RSA. My brother-in-law is hunting with them in May of 05 on a package that he paid around $3,000 for. As others have noted, your budget seems about right but dont forget to allow for airfare, tipping of ph,tracker-skinner, pre/post safari accomodations, and taxidermy and shipping. (plus a new rifle or two, boots, binoculars, clothing, etc. etc). Now that I think about it, you may need a few grand more!!!

Check with Mims Reed at Hunters HQ, who books for Kamanjab Trophy Hunting in NW Namibia. Hospitality and amenities are superior, and they had a 'package' for hunter and observer wife that we fiddled with to take my son instead of wife. Great hosts and great hunting and somthing you could do in your budget. Bob
